Our fire alarms keep going off for no reason, I think we had thunder and lightning here yesterday and since then both our alarms keep going off for no reason, both at the same time.
Tried taking out batteries, but they are mains connected, turned off the fuse and the emergency battery power kicked in.
Dont fancy another sleepless night :mad:
Anyone had this before?
As much as I dont want a sleepless night, I dont want to sleep in a house with no alarms either.

Can you take the batteries out and then switch all the mains off? That would force them to fully reset. Also, try hoovering them out.
Sounds to me like they have been cooked by the lightning, possibly a ground surge. Most likely only one is fried but it's panicing and telling the other one to sound as well.
Give the full reset thing a go before spending any dosh on it.

I have had the same before. The wiring for the alarm in the house acts as a big aerial and the lightning induces a current in it which upsets the electronics and in some cases frazzles the alarm control box completely.
In my case the lightning just reset everything and the system went back to its default factory codes. If you have the handbook just reprogramme the alarm.

This reminds me of a memorable evening in my old Uni flat...
My flatmate and I were both in our rooms sleeping when the fire alarm decided to go off. We checked for a fire, realised it was faulty (like everything else in the flat) and went back to bed.
Alarm goes off again and again and again...
I pull my pillow over my head but still can't drown it out.
Eventually, I hear a distant, muffled "For f
s sake!", followed by the creak of my flatmates door opening. I then listen to the footsteps along the landing, past the alarm and into the lounge. A bit of rummaging later, and the footsteps tired footsteps return dragging something behind.
A thud announced the placement of a chair under the alarm, and a creak as he stood on it. Then WHACK as he smashes the sounder clean off the wall with what later proves to be a wooden mallet, then......... s-i-l-e-n-c-e..... creak, thud, stomp, stomp, stomp, creeeaaaaak, "For fs sake!".
