Garage snapped me springs???

Wonder if someone can help, took me 370z into garage for mot service with 39000 miles on clock, everything on car was perfect. Got a call from garage saying as the put it up on the lift (a lift where the wheels dangle off on each side, like a centre lift) they said the wheels tend to drop and and sadly the spring suddenly ey snapped with a bang. Which then snapped the abs, it will be 3 months to get parts from Nissan with a 1200 bill before labour. My questions is this can they suddenly snap as I am sure they are responsible, its all very p*****Ed me off, as I am looking with labour about 1500 bill when I took it in perfect working order. Can they snap when being lifted, unsure what to do next

If the spring is on the way out then yes, it could well have snapped when they lifted the car.

What do the springs look like?

Are they all rusty?

Your saving grace is that it snapped whilst you weren't driving it. They can take a tyre out with them when they go.

Are they planning on fitting gold coated springs?

You can buy a set of eibach springs 20-30mm lowering for £150, I have used eibach springs on a variety of cars and without any issues.

This is nothing to do with the garage lifting the car up shouldn't cause a good spring to snap unless it's already knacked

How many springs snapped , all 4 ?

How many ABS parts ,presumably sensor cables are damaged ?

As Kerrly said , how can this possibly add up to £1200 in parts ?

Springs can and do break....but this does sound like another case of pieces of misinformation and some bonkers pricing.

Have you seen the car and/or offending spring?

I'd be straight round there to see what exactly has happened.

Springs can and do go all of their own accord. A few weeks ago I heard a loud bang outside and my OH's car alarm going off. Went out for a look and couldn't see anything. A few days later when I attempted to use the car there was an awful grinding noise as soon as I started moving. I got out, had a good look and realised that one corner was sitting very low. Turned out a spring had gone all of its own accord while the car was parked. In your case, if a spring was on its way out already then putting it on a ramp and having the wheels dangling might have been the straw the broke the camel's back.

Springs definitely do break and if one had failed I'd want all four replaced. I've known an anti-roll bar to snap too, and if it's going to go then having a wheel suddenly dropped on it would seem like as good a reason as any. Look at it this way - they were going to fail one way or the other. They picked the best time and place to do it. If it had happened on the road, you might not be here to tell us about it.
