As much as Ilike my Camaro SS (IMO it's, 'nearly, just right' (only 'nearly' because, let's be honest, is a hobby car ever 100%?) I'm toying with the idea of, at some point, changing camps. I've got a mahoosive itch to be scratched in the form of a Challenger - specifically a Challenger SRT or R/T with shaker hood.

Now I know that the Camaro is a little porky by modern standards - but cmopared (that was a typo but it made me chuckle) to the Challenger it's positively svelte. But whoever designed the Challenger really "brought their A-game" to work that day cloud9 and, for me, the want is strong. Has anyone out there actually owned both and can give an objective assessment vis-a-vis performance (SS is faster) handling/comfort etc?

Just to make my life a little more interesting I've pretty much settled on either Plum Crazy or ublime as favourite colour - no point in getting a silly car if you don't go the whole hog.

R/T is not really powerful enough to pass a red-face test versus an SS Camaro or a Mustang. 4200lbs and 375hp don't make a particularly exciting package. As often opined, an R/T Challenger (Shaker or not) is more cruiser than bruiser - a sheep in wolf's clothing.

R/T Scat Pack will give you an additional 110hp - and that makes a whole heap of difference. Downside of the Scat Pack without Widebody package is that the OEM wheel/tire combo can't cope with the torque, so getting those 245 section tires to hook, when you stamp on it invariably leaves you in a cloud of smoke and not much forward motion.

I have driven lots of 1SS and 2SS Camaros and own a Widebody Scat Pack. My 2c is that coming out of your Chevy, you will be somewhat underwhelmed by the performance of an R/T Challenger.

If you do go Mopar, make sure it has an Apache engine.

Cheers Matt - interesting reading.

I must admit that (ready to hand in my PH badge here!) I'm not too concerned about the performance aspect, especially here in crowded, speed-camera infested S.E. and I don't go drag racing. With that in mind why do I even want a V8? I love the noise it makes, the performance is a lovely bonus. That said a 392 would, IMO, be the logical one to look for - I guess it all depends on the $$$ vs the 345.

Very unlikely to happen before mid-2021, but research is a a grand idea thumbup

A very good friend of mine has a narrow bodied Scat Pak which has the shaker hood. Lovely car in GoMango and the bumble bee stripe. He has put a set of aftermarket wheels on it running 305 rear and 275 front. I think he ran 12.5 at 107mph at Santa Pod. So they go well and sound lovely. If you can stretch to the SRT392 then you get the big brakes and adjustable suspension.

My Scat Pack runs very consistent 11's with these on.
