Wrong thermostat fitted?

Have you checked the temperature with an obd scanner?

I checked it with a obd11 reader annoying because I think the previous owner had the engine management light turned off because it doesnt light up and i changed all the bulbs init and the codes it gives me is P1298 says its a electric load detector and another which is p0420 think that might be the 02 sensor would any of them cause the temperature gauge to sit where its sitting cheers

The temp dial should sit below the half-way mark - it did on my 1.6 civic and it does on my 1.8 civic.

Those codes might point to a common problem. Have you checked the coolant temperature (and if so, what was it running at?). Do the fans turn on and off as they need to?

Simple question, but does the needle drop to the same level as the fuel gauge when the ignition is off (i.e. is it's starting position correct)?

Hi the fans have never turned on i haven't checked the coolant temperature I will try that and wen the car is off the temperature gauge doesnt sit all the way at the bottom like the petrol one goes right to the bottom so it could maybe be faulty clocks maybe
