Hi all,

Its been a long time since I last owned an American car as a 19 year old, in 1984 actually. A 1969 Mach 1 biggrin

Anyway we have the internet now, so how do you check the details of an old American made car these days ?
If the seller says its got the original engine, it was made a certain year etc, is there a website(s) you go to to prove ?

Thanks

Are we talking an import car from the USA?

If so, the import documents are a must, plus the DVLA certification. The G5 Camaro SS I had imported also had all the build documents that proved the date of manufacture.

Matching numbers are a good starting point for engine/chassis. Our G6 Camaro has the same engine number as the last 6 digits of the VIN.

Absolutely tons of stuff on the web!

Vin break downs, engine and trans no's etc, the cars vin will tell you what motor.where it was made, year etc.
Then you have to crawl under the car, and check all the numbers match the build sheet, very tedious job lol............

If it doesn't have a vin number, dont buy it unless its cheap,
If its cheap dont worry and enjoy it.......................................................

My car has all the paper work, Broadcast sheet, order form , pink slip, reg papers blah blah blah..........................................
makes not one jot to the way the thing looks or drives!
Engine cast on the 4th of July 1970 at 12 noon by a Fat bloke with a porn star mustache lol....................

Seriously theres so much utter crap regarding this matching numbers s---e ,
And theres so many faked numbered cars out there.

Enjoy finding a car,

Im thinking more about buying a UK car rather than importing.

Also Im not to hung up on matching numbers, but if the vendor says they do match and is pricing it accordingly, Id want to knw he's telling the truth.

Then you have to do the crawling lol..............
no other way than to check your self.
so you will need a vin, a build/broadcast sheet, whether original of a copy from a history specialist.

Then with the car lifted, check the engine, trans, third member , some motors have several body part vins stamped in various places, its not a fun job, but its the only way,

If your buying however from a trusted and quality dealer, cant see its a worry top places are there because of reputation, so if they say its cool its cool!
and they will have a lift and will have no worries in confirming is all genuine.

Just out of interest what are you looking to buy???
A proper muscle car or a Mustang???
