Outdoor events re-open?
Discussion
Thought I would get a sounding in here, July 4th sees covid relaxation rules but I am not sure if this includes classic car shows, country events, steam rallies etc. One hand says we can go to fairgrounds on the other hand the Government advises not to mix in groups of people numbering 30 or more. ?

Covid hasn't gone away. It's still just as easily transmitted, and still just as likely to make someone die as it was in March. The message behind lockdown relaxation & things opening is not "It's safe to come out now", it's likely "we've got room in intensive care for you, and the economy has just been kicked in the teeth, so we could do with some spending"
Pretty much everything is now permissible and it is up to organisers and businesses to follow the guidelines and up to individuals and customers to make their own decisions about their own lives.
I think the lack of Nanny State has sh4t a lot of people up as much as the disease. It’s a long time since anyone who craved being in authority then turned around and told people they must take personal responsibility for themselves and those around them.
The reality is that there cannot be many kinds of gatherings that are remotely commercially viable if following the guidelines and also operating on very reduced attendees so in many regards, potentially dangerous mass gatherings are going to be pretty self policing.
On top of that, lots of enterprises are doing the smart thing and handling back from July 4th for a few weeks to see what happens in regards to hospital admissions.
Club meets like the Real Bugatti Owners Club should be absolutely fine as title just be one bloke in a field and he will only be there because he has lost his dog.

Oulton Park have rescheduled an event from earlier in the year to the beginning of August, on the presumption that it will be OK. There's plenty of room to keep distance - I imagine access to the café or the paddock area may be more limited, if it does go ahead.
A lot of the static events I would normally go to were first rescheduled, and then later cancelled. One or two for late August or September are still on the calendar, tbc. Again, I would imagine that things like autojumble areas may well be abandoned or reorganised, if they can go ahead.

Being vulnerable/at risk etc ,I shall be very wary of attending anything for quite a while yet .

Hopefully, there will be an increase in smaller meets which I suspect people will feel more in personal co trial at. I have written off this year and I am looking to reset my adventures in 2021 .
Also, there are more than enough people who are higher risk and with more than enough money in their pockets as a collective for private enterprise to hopefully feel they can run bespoke events.
At the end of the day, an event that is laid on specifically for ‘at risk’ and higher risk should not only be very well self policed but very lucrative (in current terms) and arguably give better peace of mind to organisers.
I guess the problem will be how to filter out the inevitable pee takers. Given the size of this situation and the need to help enterprise then maybe the only way is for the government to create a database of all those clearly at risk, over 65s and anyone signed up by a GP?

It’s not really the issue that it’s being made out to be for many situations. Our pub has put portaloos in the garden for blokes so that others have more space. Wear a mask when queuing or passing others close by. And everyone now carries hand sanitiser so they are now the cleanest they’ve ever been in their lives.
Our little local car meet has already said they will be putting portaloos on the green for men and women so that the lavatories inside are reserved for the elderly and disabled.
What exactly is it that is dangerous about a toilet but not dangerous about a toll queue?
I don't think there will be any commercial events/shows this year as there won't be the footfall to warrant it, especially for shows that rely on punters turning up in their classic cars to display them.
Smaller club racing events should be ok as they only have modest crowds at the best of times.
There might even be an increased interest in pub-meets as venues look for new ways of getting customers to visit.

I would not worry to much about the virus if you are outside on a warm day, short of somebody kissing you with tongue’s it’s pretty safe. Look at all those people on the beaches 5 weeks ago there as been no spikes at all.I have written off this year and I am looking to reset my adventures in 2021 .

Motorway Service stations have not closed. Cleansed regular there is no problem, plus people are now more savvy, when using such places. In any case, I've always managed with a wide necked fabric softener bottle in moments of extreme need.
I've been wondering whether we could organise some small meet ups - depends where is open, but I know a cafe not far away, popular with bikers that's open and has a big car park - could we do some PH classic meets for 6 / 10 cars?
Not sure where to post that idea - here, or classic events, or regional!

Great Britain has the largest and most efficient festival industries on the planet. This is an industry that won’t be setting up massive festivals for some time and the only way it can survive is to adapt to being able to turn up and set up safe facilities at smaller events or large events where large numbers of drugged and uninhibited individuals will be absent.
The uncomfortable truth is that this is not a country of great innovation but one with a love and fixation of red tape and the immense security it gives people in positions of responsibility.
If you consider the logistics a classic car show would be just about the easiest large event to organise in the UK right now. It is outdoors, it doesn’t attract uninhibited party people and you have space to put as many toilets and food establishments up as are needed. They aren’t like sporting events where thousands are rammed together, drunk and shouting. Instead they are generally dispersed with people being , on the whole, sensible and in control of their emotions.
Meanwhile, the party people will just be asking their dad’s how illegal raves and house parties were run in the 90s.
