Rolex Service

Any of the Rolex wearing population here know of a place where I can get my Submariner serviced, or is it best to have it sent back to Rolex via a dealer?

there are places who are approved by Rolex who will service it( i.e. Rolex provide them with parts ). You could ring watches of switzerland they may recommend someone. Just be sure you know who is doing the work.

When I recently enquired at one of the hight street jewellers about getting mine serviced they were very evasive. I had to really pin them down to decipher their word games to discover they would have a guy on site do it unless I specified it going back to Rolex.

Personally I would only not send it back to Rolex if it was muvh cheaper. If it is te same price, but will be ready a week sooner I would rather let Rolex do the work themselves.

Watches of Switzerland, Bond Street. About £350 for a Daytona, so I imagine £250-£400 depending on the model. Takes a few weeks, but comes back all shiny and the receipt also proves the authenticity of the watch.

I don't know where you are Dave, but Chilcotts, on Park Street, Bristol can service Rolex on the premises. I had an Oyster Datejust done last year for £165, took just over three weeks.

Not trying to start anything here and I'm sorry if this has laready been covered elsewhere, but what do they do when they service watches?
With cars it's oil change, spark plugs, brake fluid, etc., but do they change anything inside the watch or just checking it's ticking correctly?

I guess it depends on where you live in the UK. I am in Bath and go to Mallory, they have their own repair centre for Rolex.

I live in Leeds, the only really convnient place is the dealer I ought it from.
They want £250, but I've had it 10 years with no service so I suppose thats not bad when compared with cars etc.

£250 sounds expensive. My £165 service was from the supplying dealer (Official Rolex dealer etc...).

If they are doing a full service they should mostly dissassemble the movement, clean each part, oil, reassemble and check accuracy. They should also clean and polish the case.

I have a Breitling and got the service centre details off their website, I would assume that www.rolex.com (guessing here) would have details of the UK service centre.

I have had a few friends watches serviced for them by a shop on Bahnhofstrasse, Zurich ( I will try and find the link). It cost 250 CHF to service a Daytona.

This quiote was from the official dealer who sold me the watch, I'll try another tho' I have a suspicion that they are all going to be there or there abouts.
Alex,
The £250 quoted is for whatever a service consists of, and I too would expect a strip down and a good lube job!
It also gets refurbished/polished to 'good as new' and sealed and pressure tested for my these days all too infrequent diving activities.

I'll let you interested parties kno how it goes.
As I mentioned £250 is'nt bad I suppose for a good service.

You can get it done for a bit less via Goldsmiths or other jewellers, but to be honest you are only talking of a saving of £30 or £40. Get it done local and professional.
