On Saturday morning I was travelling through Helmsley and these villages on my bike. That evening had a drive through Sutton and Helmsley again; stopped for a Coke and enjoyed the peace and scenery.
Yesterday got back home from a day in York to find our stream outside the house had been up and over the road (just mud and branches, nothing serious) and that these villages|http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_pictures/4110186.stm had suffered flash flooding.
Hope everyone is OK.
Any Phers stuck out there yesterday?

We could see some pretty horrific lightning over towards the Moors from here in Teesside; looked like a couple of strikes landed in Middlesbrough!
No TV stations at all since yesterday afternoon (not that I'm bothered! )
We had a few showers, but I was outside working on the Esprit and stayed dry under the tailgate...

Well, the atmosphere had been positively far-Eastern in its humidity up here for the past few days, then last night at about 5:45-ish, the sky just went black, thunder rumbled on and off for about an hour or so, then the heavens just opened. The resulting lightning storm blew a couple of light bulbs in our house, and put our TV aeriel out of joint so now we can't get Channel 5 (bad thing?).

And now we're back to the sweltering heat. Oh well, I've already had a bath...

I was just heading into Thirsk from York (coming home from York Raceway), when the storm broke.

I had already stopped to put the hood up,seeing black skies up ahead, but visibility got so bad that I pulled into a car park in Thirsk, and sat there for AN HOUR until I could see enough to drive safely.

I now know exactly where my car leaks, but can only say that considering it was like being parked under Niagara Falls, it don't leak too bad !

That was the heaviest rain I've ever experienced in this country, and for the longest time.

I had a ride over the Snilesworth - Hawnby road this afternoon from Bilsdale. As you get right to the top of Hawnby moor they've put a sign up 'ROAD CLOSED', wish they'd put it somewhere earlier.
Carried on anyway to find at one point there is a section of road missing (about 2 foot across and 3 or 4 feet deep) about a quarter mile further, the bit I expected to be worse the road has dissappeared. You have to climb up about 3 feet from the stream bed up to the tarmac. Lots of debris; trees, fences etc. Lots of sections of tarmac which have just 'split' as the water's been flowing underneath. But most surprising is the height and width at which the stream reached. At one point a gentle, trickling stream must have been 20 feet deep and 150 feet across!!

Pretty horrendous!

More thunderstorms on the way today.
I'm coming down to York, but it will be in the dieselgrandadrovermobile this time.

Ah. A challenge

That's right. It was bike on shoulder time á la cyclo cross.
At least it kept the tourists at bay.
