‘02 WRX Brakes

I have a 2002 Impreza WRX wagon which is completely stock. My disks have had it so need to change the brakes, is just replacing with OE disks and pads the best option?

The car is a daily and used for standard road use only so don’t want anything extreme or are going to take time to get heat into them. Saying that the breaks are not great so a mild improvement would be good, Scooby World have Brembo disks and pads for not a lot more are these a worthwhile upgrade?

Brakes on Bugs and Blobs are pretty crap and wooden feeling as standard so personally I would upgrade to G hook discs and carbon pads from Godspeed if you're on a budget. Calipers seize a lot so check that pistons are moving freely.

discs and pads from eurocarparts , the pagid pads are very good for road use and have good bite , they often have a sale on too , the pagid pads are 40£ ish normally , i use them on my fsti plus previous non brembo scoobies

My input here would be avoid Godspeed - poor quality and the G hook thing brings nothing to the party. Quality discs ideally genuine Subaru (plenty of new old stock on eBay) and some better pads. As said, make sure the calipers are free moving and your system is bled correctly with fresh fluid and that should see you fine for some spirited driving. No point skimping on budget discs and pads, one day you will need them and its not worth saving a few quid - buy the best you can afford.

Be careful with the Brembo stuff out there that is being offered cheap. There are a lot of fake discs and pads being sold as Brembo with logos and boxes all looking very convincing but foreign copies!

Replace the pistons with stainless steel ones and new seals.

as above the pagid pads are way better than the brembo ones , a lot more bite

I purchased my discs from import car parts, along with the pad fitting kits and new bolts. Always genuine and good quality stuff , reliable delivery and a good source of advice.
Opted for black diamond predator pads from demon tweeks at about £60 for the front and Brembo pads for the rear, and I’m very pleased with the set up.

I did have to un seize my front calipers and got a boot repair kit from big redd for £20 odd, easy fit but the pistons had slightly rusted, so I’ll be replacing the calipers with reconditioned ones which I did myself in due course, as I got a set of S/h front calipers from Ebay .

The piston boots are prone to splitting, they then allow water and dirt in which leads to them sticking. A real pain but worth doing properly, a full repair kit with stainless pistons from Ebay is around £120, make sure you get a kit with the small “o” rings that go between the calipers if you intend to split them.

I was going to opt for Godspeed, but some reports put me off.
