I’m in the market for an M4 and I was wondering if there were any particularly key “things” to have? Also, I like a number of the colours, however is there anything to consider in particular?

Thanks for any advice. GusB

From an aesthetic perspective full leather.
Carbon trim

Harmon Kardon stereo
Heads up display (plus speed limit display)
For later cars: icon adaptive headlights
Reversing camera.
Apple car play
Surround view

These are the very popular options that arise in discussions I’ve had on the coupe variant and M3.

Not sure why it would be different for convertible.

Most cars are with optional DCT , but you may want a manual.

I read something on here about the colours not to get if resale is a concern. I believe white was mentioned by a dealer as a definite no-no.

Thanks. I have seen a lot in Santorani which suits it, however also think the dark blue looks great, just seem less of them around. GusB

This is a good recent PH read. Some of the comments are as relevant as the article itself: https://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?t=18...

Tanzanite , a dark blue is one of my faves.
Avus is another great dark blue.

I prefer them to San Marino

Yas Marina is the popular light blue.

With the Austin yellow , it’s on many of the early press cars. M3/4.

There’s probably Santorini. But I would think from the individual range.
Mexico blue
Riviera blue , these are other light blues.
As an individual you can get Long beach blue.

I don’t like white cars, but I haven’t read their a concern on resale. There seem to be less than on the E92 generation.

Santorini would be from the Individual range and costs a lot.
Had it in on Alpina and it cost in the region of £3500.

I don’t think Yas Marina suits the M4 but does the M3.
Tanzanite is nice as is SAN Marino.

Hello Gus. I’ve got Tanzanite Blue on my 440. It’s a beautiful, rich colour that really pops in the sunshine. Definitely recommend it.

Azurite Black M4 cab here, almost black but blue under bright light.

Chap above mentioned HUD, I love my HUD and really wanted it. But in the real world in the sun wearing sunglasses you can’t bloody see it.... good for resale but don’t avoid otherwise good cars.

Apple CarPlay is good, but the bmw system is decent enough.

Use mine daily and it’s great, comfy and fairly refined. However It’s still sharp enough to get on it, I often go on a spirited drive with a friend and his S2 Exige S and the M4 does a good job of sticking with it.
It does get heavy on the brakes as
It’s lardy at 1800kg - but the extra weight and ability to drop the top is worthwhile, it’s a right hooligan with the top down and it sounds considerably better than a coupe.

Bargains at the moment. Go buy one, lots of choice, name your price!

Wife had an F80 M3 for 3 years and did 36k miles.
Nothing whatsoever went wrong.
Servicing was pretty infrequent too.

I've had mine nearly 2 years

Nothing has gone wrong so far

I went for an M4 Comp convertible
San Marino Blue (this was a £1k option but well worth it)
Black wheels
DCT
Rev Camera
HUD
Carbon trim (This really does make a difference to the inside)
Harmon Kardon

Good car as a daily. I came from an M5. Given I've got 2 small kids I miss the practicality of the M5 but they are seldom in my car and we use the Mrs Q5 as the hack

Wife had the convertible comfort package on her old 2017 cp model. Air collars, heated steering wheel and wind deflector. Air on my neck always felt a bit damp though. Felt like our dogs had jumped in the back and were breathing all over us! HUD and cf trim were nice, that cheap blue/grey plastic they use is shocking. She had the cameras with park assist but never used it.

Nothing so far. I had it throw a rear axle error on a road that look liked it had been used for bomb practice and this was a 40mph road in Edinburgh. It sorted itself once I stopped at traffic lights and when I checked the error it was due to ‘rough terrain’ so I’ll never go that way again!

As for spec although not a convertible, I’ve got all that’s listed under the 2nd post as well as DTC, self parking (which I’ve never used), high beam assist and heated seats and steering wheel which is lovely in the winter (wish I had it in my Z4) and I don’t have keyless entry.

It was one of the first early F80 cars - October 2014.
By facelift do you mean Competition model? No, it wasn’t.
