Ponds are very valuable to wildlife, lets show them off and give inspiration to others.

Sitting next to one of ours now.

Needs some proper work over the next couple of summers.

Obviously- it’s not in my garden but it’s mine to look after. Our second is approx 7 acres - it’s much less of a pond.

A bit dry here, you should have seen it in January.

Mine's a work in progress after I had to reduce it to build the kitchen extension.

Plus an on going battle with Herons, we tried PIR water guns, low fences, high fences then ended up putting a net over it meaning we had to remove most of the plants.

Just erected a new high net - seems to be the best option.

I'll add pic later

Simple patio pond for us, with three goldfish for the kids to look at.

Nice idea. Does the water not just go scummy as it’s not moving though?

I'm in the process of building a wildlife pond, but no photos to show yet.
I understand to prevent the water going green the surface needs to be about 2/3rds covered?

Not at all - got oxygenators in there - other than a typical algae bloom early spring it’s crystal clear.

I bought a new marginal but clearly got the depth wrong as it’s throwing roots everywhere.

Would love some more details on this as I'd like to do one of these. Do the fish survive over winter, for example, or do you need to bring them inside? What plants have you used?

Seems like a fun lockdown project - we don't want a full sized pond as we have a toddler.

On a similar note - no moving traffic on canals around here means there's a clear sludge building up on the surface.. What stops the water from going 'scummy'?

I’d like a little pond, a sort of raised one as we have two Frenchies who will a) jump in and b) drown.

Could be a nice little lockdown project !
