Spotted this one-family-from-new '63 Riviera for sale

1963 Buick Riviera

"This excellently cared for vehicle has been in the family since my uncle bought it in Utah in 1963."

82k miles, up for $27k (just under £22k).

Love these cars, and just think it's so cool that it's being sold for maybe only the second time in it's life! One of these days I want to go to the States, buy a Riviera, have a road trip holiday and ship it back. A very original car like this seems great, there fortunately seem to be quite a few well-cared-for Rivieras around at reasonable prices.

A '64 Riviera is a better bet, as it looks the exactly the same but has the much more modern and then new 3-speed GM Hydramatic transmisson rather than the ancient late 40's design Buick Dynaflow transmission which the first year '63 has.

Had a 63 a few years ago, almost more european in design than a yank ,expected a Facel Vega or a Italian badge instead of a Buick one, i think mine started the satin paint rage but mine was done by the sun in Arizona not a paintshop, When my daily Saab went for repairs for a couple of weeks i was surprised how modern it drove on a daily basis so much better than some of the 50's cars i had at the time, would love another one. aeropilot can you tell me where do you get your american car knowledge from ,i've been driving yanks and Rods for 30 years and i know a bit of all of them some more than others but still not as knowledgeable as you, you must have swallowed the internet .you should go on mastermind with a memory like that.

Theres a tidy 63' for sale over here, looks a lot of car for just over 13k, be worth a punt i'd have thought

Not a great colour combo, considering some of the 63/64's had some wonderful wild metallic leather colour interiors, but worth a look at probably.
£13k here means it was probably a sub-$10k car in USA, which would make me a little cautious, given decent 63's are in the $16-22k region in the USA.

Only thing you have to be careful with any '58-'64 Buick is the state of the famous 45 fin alloy brake drums, as replacements are not available and most of the decent 2nd used ones get snapped up by us hot rodders for fitting on 32-34 Ford's
There is only one place in the USA than can repair or re-line them......so not a cheap undertaking to ship out there and back.

Is that the white one in Warwickshire ,it's been for sale for a while if it's the same one,should of sold at that sort of money unless it's not as good as it looks in the photo. Been following your progress with your Challenger ,coming on nicely, had a couple of Challengers some years back, a 440 72 or 73 can't remember now, it was the red car in the Primal Scream's video and album cover, looked ok from 10 yards but a bit scruffy with hidden rust but one of the best i've driven,the other one was a 70 in Sublime green 383 genuine RT with 45,000 miles, that's the one i should have never sold,Mind you l say that alot, I think Elo from the London Motor Museum ended up with it, had to put up with looking at it at Wheels Day as it turned up most years, looking forward to see your's when it's finished ,

Must be this one that was for in Solihull for a while, although the carandclassic ad has disappeared, obviously these pics were taken before it was shipped over here but it's definitely the same car with the same reg' number....
