The ancillary drive belt pulley on my Chimaera 500 (the wheel attached to the front of the crank chaft that drives the belt to the alternator, water pump etc) set itself loose under the bonnet at about 4000rpm!!!! It must have been one of the most spectacular spinning tops ever invented. It would appear that the big 'Jesus nut' that holds it on had worked itself loose and fallen out!

Fortunately no real damage (emergency stop and engine shutdown within a few seconds ...) but has anyone heard of this happening before?

Pretty rare, they have been known to "fall apart" or for the pulley to come loose.

The bolt sheared on mine. For no aparant reason took some messing to get the bit out of the crank.

Mine has been sorted now; the bolt had simply undone itself! No other damage.
