Okay, bored on lockdown. What's the best sounding //M that you've heard?

For me it's the e46 CSL in Sport mode followed by the e60 M5 with M button selected.

e46 CSL for me. Nothing comes close.

Unless you count the M engine in the back of the Mac F1...

V10 M5/M6 at full chat was nice.
E46 CSL with the flap 'accidentally permanently stuck on open' was bloody EPIC though.

I'd have to agree with that. thumbup

A couple of years ago I followed an E60 M5 under a railway bridge and the driver "gave it some" so I dropped my window so I could hear it, then followed it a few miles out of my way. I would have followed it further, but it pulled into a filling station!

Now I'm feeling guilty! My Z4M Coupe with Powerflow back-boxes sounds pretty good too - hopefully it hasn't read this. rolleyes

The V10 in the E60 will always be number one for me. It just sounds so sexy.

The raspiness of the E46 is a bit marmite for some but for me it’s one of the all time greats, especially in CSL form

Just listen to it cloud9 ... https://youtu.be/s0MOOvg4zfw

Got to be a straight six, but I never liked the S54 noise.
Maybe the E36 M3!

Not an M car but I loved the noise that my X5 4.8iS made. cloud9

Noise wise the X5 4.8iS knocked both my Z4M/E92 M3 into a cocked hat for me.

I preferred the sound of my E36 M3 Evo to my E46 M3. Wasn't actually that big of a fan of the rasp.

That is exactly the same as me and I prefer the noise of the E36 M3 to the E46 M3...the rasp does nothing for me. I have high flow sports cats on my 370Z and I like the increase in volume/change in tone...but I don't like that it has added a bit of rasp.

Although it was incredibly quiet from the exhaust I preferred the noise that the N52 330i made to the Z4M. I think that I have an allergy to raspy noises and I much prefer a deeper tone!

No and I just preferred the grumbling(American style) V8 noise that the X5 made. The M3 doesn't sound like a traditional V8 to my ears that's all.

I do like the sound of the M3 V8 but I agree the X5 did sound very naughty. I think that engine in that car...as ridiculous as it is, appeals to our immature side.

No he hated it and used it as the "guy" on bonfire night IIRC... biggrin
