We're a GP surgery and we need to organise a new COVID testing/assessment area outside.

It's going to be set up in the car park (concrete base) and be kept up overnight. Equipment will be taken out there in the mornings as required.

Has to be a reasonable size for a few people (the patient, a doctor and a nurse as well as additional space space to have some kit). Crude measurements suggest about 12 foot by 24 foot as the base. Can be bigger if needed. It's for walk in cases (not cars).

We're thinking a tent or gazebo type thing rather an a portacabin.

Something like these is probably what we're after:

Would really appreciate any advice or suggestions.

TIA chaps smile

If you have a local Army Reserve near you, it's probably worth asking if they have anything suitable you could borrow. Failing that, whereabouts are you, as am 100% certain that PH has a few oversize tents in outbuildings. I know I do smile

There must be a few quiet wedding venues or tent shops with some big tents.

There is plenty of choice for 8x4m sized commercial 'marquees' at reasonable price - brands like Gala and Dancover spring to mind. These come with 38mm diameter poles and all metal fittings, for which you can easily obtain spare parts unlike the cheaper end of the home gazebo market.

The other thing to consider is that if you want to keep it up for weeks at a time you should think about drilled rawlbolt type fixings into the concrete (?) base and use ratchet tie down straps to secure it.

Gala is best known but only comes with white painted metal parts and some of the other brands offer galvanised that would be better for long term use. Some manufacturers also offer different 'weight' covers so you'd probably want the higher level option for long term.

Thanks guys.

Opinions on this?

Seems decent value but not sure if the front closes (we need it to do that if/when seeing patients).

I'm not sure we can justify a grand on one of the fancier ones linked above (this is NHS after all!)

Where are you?

There are hundreds of professional marquee firms around the country currently furloughed. I'm sure you'll be able to find one that will be able to helps out, and as you say - you're the NHS, but they're specialists at this sort of thing.

I know we're supposedly heading for warmer/better weather but I'd be inclined to think more about the weather and hire in a portakabin or two. Could easliy be set up as one or two rooms, say one for recep and one or two for treatment etc. These things aren't expensive at the best of times, but I'd guess that once you explain to the company what it's for price would be very cheap and it'll look proper not like some gashed up camp site.

I can't believe that in this climate, if you put an appeal out locally to you that you won't get sorted quickly. The local British Army depot is a great starting point as mentioned as are the suggestions for marquee places or indeed private citizens who may have something like this stashed away. Get on to your local paper and they will undoubtedly print the story...

Please say where you are as there is also a chance that you could get sorted by the power of PH. It seems to happen more often than not. yes

PS You are all doing a great job btw thumbup

Thanks for your replies guys. We're based in Essex.

We did consider hiring but decided given it was going to be unsecured in the surgery car park, we couldn't guarantee against theft and vandalism (overnight while unattended). Unlikely, but we'd have felt very bad about this, especially if a company had gone out of its way to do us and the NHS a favour.

Thank you! smile

We set up the gazebo today. It's a good size. Water bottles on the feet to hold it down (though we may replace with sand).

Supposed to rain tomorrow, so that'll be its first real test. thumbup

I didn't see this earlier, but if your current solution doesn't hold up, the "garage" tents Machine Mart sell are fairly sturdy.
