A freind of mine has just contacted me and asked if i want a brand new TV at half price from 'a guy he knows' The TV's are not stolen, they are returned from comapnies that over purchased or whatever and he has a batch of these www.hifibitz.co.uk/product.asp?id=2687

32" Sony LCD for £1,800!

I am very tempted, if anyone else is interested Let me know and I see will I can do, he is just making sure that the warrantee's will be valid.

Added: Having done a search for more info on this TV i have found that the MRP is now quite a lot lower!

So it's not half price anymore, its about £800/£1000 off.

Don't believe MRPs, RSPs or SSPs - just trawl Kelkoo, eBay etc to find out what they're really going for. AV kit falls faster than a TV out of a rockstar's hotel window.

The one thing I do know is that the TV's will be as described (brand new and unopened) or my freind would not offer me one.

I am going to hold out for a lower price though now i have seen they are cheaper than he is suggesting.

I have just bought a Toshiba 32WL56 32" LCD which is high def compatible for £950 and I am really pleased with it. Bought a Samsung 850 DVD player for £100 to go with it and the picture is stunning. You pay a hell of a big premium for Sony kit IMHO.

Thats what i love about this forum!

I think i will tell my mate to keep his TV if i can go and get a similar one for £1k from a known entity!

It is amazing how much the price can vary for similar equipment..

Thanks all!

Just bought this, and a TEAC DVD player with 5.1 surraound system from Richer Sounds.

The whole lot cost £2,500 and the chap came to my house, wired it all up and reconfigured the remotes for £30.00 and half a bottle of Chateau Neuf de Pape! (It was open anyway).

As others have noted - Richer Sounds is always worth a check for any hi-fi / video gear.

I just bought a 23" LCD Philips for my den, £550.

Just been looking there actually.

£1.3k for a 42" Plasma with DVD/VCR/pro-logic unit...not too shabby!

You do pay a premium for Sony kit...but those screens do look great with the glass frame IMHO
