Have a couple of Cateye Stravas, maybe 9 or 10 years old now; they're OK but always finicky on sensor alignment and eat batteries.

Where's the game at now?

I use Wahoo Elmnt Bolt. Now 2-3 years old and has worked perfectly. Syncs to their own app and Strava immediately after ride.

When time comes to upgrade/replace I will shop Wahoo again.

Okay, a Wahoo Elemnt Bolt on it's way with a spare mount.

As it's GPS enabled, I guess there is some, perhaps laggy, speed and distance functionality without the dedicated sensor. Maybe I guess wrong...?

No real issues with lag (Element Bolt owner). You can always mount a separate speed sensor if you so wish, which may be useful if your most common routes have potential for poor GPS signal with tree cover etc.
