Legal issues driving to MOT

My Griff has a sorn declaration on it at the moment while I get a misfire sorted. It is going in for remedial work and MOT next week. As I understand it I can legally drive a car to an MOT, but what if it has no road tax? I cant get tax without MOT so does that mean I have to trailer it to the MOT?

I drove mine SORN'd to the MOT, no problems. As you say you can't tax it without MOT, so I'm certain there's an exception allowing you to drive untaxed (straight) to and from the MOT. I checked with my insurance company who didn't seem to think there was a problem with this, but did recommend I take all insurance docs (after all that's the most important bit) just in case of . I guess the assumption is that once you've MOT'd it you'll get the tax, and seeing as you have to buy from the beginning of the calendar month you end up paying for the day you drove it anyway.

You can drive to and from an MOT station without tax providing you have a booking. Don't forget you must have insurance though.

Hmm tricky one! i would check with dvla or the police, no tax on a car means that the insurance is void as it should not be on the road, i know if you go and buy a car and drive it home with no tax or mot it is definetly an offense because i have 8 points to prove it!!

You can drive a car with no tax and MOT to the MOT station (must have an appointment) and home again, also if you are in receipt of an MOT failure sheet you can drive the car to a garage to have the faults rectified and then back to the MOT station to be retested.
