A good night out in London? Recommendations wanted

I'm getting together with some old school friends (about 10 of us, men and women) and we've decided we want to go somewhere a bit more exotic than Kingsbury (NW London) which is where we went to school.
The criteria is:
We're all in our mid 30s, so we don't want somewhere that's full of drunk 16 year olds.
Music is good, but we'd like to be able to hear each other when we talk.
I don't want my shoes to stick to the carpet.
A club nearby so we can go boogying once we're all full of falling down water would be a bonus.
Underground station nearby.

China Whites if you can be arsed with the pretentiousness. Its entertaining to go and take the piss...
I dont think you can beat a lively restaurant. No club/pub pressure, you get slaughtered in a civilised manner and its a lot easier to keep track of people when they are sitting down...

The elbow rooms in Angel? The music is good + not too loud, plenty of room for a large group, near to Angel tube.
There's one in Shoreditch too, which has plenty of clubs nearby...

How about onanon just off Picadilly Circus? Then you could nip to 10rooms for a boogie, or just go up a couple of floors.
Or Jewel's quite nice and not too noisy - again, right on Picadilly Circus. Or Lab on Compton St does the best cocktails in town. Or...getting carried away now...

Why's that? Having not been to any of the places listed, I'm a bit green.
The venue hasn't got to be anywhere posh or anything like that, just....well nice. It doesn't even have to be in central London, although North of the river is easier for all of us.
To be honest, I think anywhere would be a big improvement on Kingsbury these days. Most of us have moved away, but because we know the area, we tend to always meet there, and we always complain that it's blummin' awful!

There is about half a dozen or so of those clubs such as Tiger Tiger, onanon, sugar reef at al.... around Piccadilly/Leicester Sq area (all advertised on the tub). All fairly similar and pricy on the beer stakes (over 3 quid for a small bottle of larger). Why not just meet up at a pub nr Leicester Sq. tube (Bear and Staff is pleasant enough) and wander into Covent Garden - plenty of places to pick from and you'll be able to get pints....
Other than that Embankment is always nice for a change - Tattershall castle on the Thames etc...

You could start the evening at the Baltic Vodka Bar. It's south of the river (just) but right by a tube station. They do cracking cocktails whilst you wait for your friends to turn up, then proper food. Once you're all comfortable and suitably lubricated, hop on a tube/grab a taxi and head into town for a club of your choice.
The Baltic is funky, but not on the main circuit, so you don't have to put up with quite so much BS until you've drunk enough not to care.

Try the Crazy Bear 26-28 Whitfield Street, (near goodge street tube) cool bar, I'd call up in advance as it can get busy and they will reserve you a space at the bar. It also does Thai food but you would need to book. This place is different and the toilets need to be seen to be believed its like a 1970's disco in there!!
