Is this due to my driving or is this a mechanical fault ?
When I 'accelerate swiftly' pull in first gear is fine but when I pop into 2nd gear and press the pedal the engine spins fine but there seems to be a lack of connection with the road, ie acceleration of the car doesn't match the engine speed. After a second or so this then corrects itself and the car picks up speed right proper.
Its a '94 993.
Thanks for any light you can shed

Nope, this is not normal. I'd check the linkage behind the pedal and make sure it's returning to the top of it's travel before you book in for a new clutch and bank account lobotomy at AFN.

Put your foot behind it and pull back when driving, mine did the same thing but the clutch was just sticking half way down - a little WD40 on the spring and mechanism behind and that seems to have sorted it.
