When did the GLS version of the Sunbeam be worth almost £17k ?
I can see the Ti getting close to this, I would have thought £6-7k tops for a GLS. Will a nice set of wheels, Weber’s and a set of spot lamps really add that much to it’s value.

They'd probably be asking more without the vinyl roof and front suspension that seems a little high.

17K seems like way too much.

I sold mine in 1989 for about £900 XWX 666X - not a registration to try and say to plod after you've had a couple!

Also had a black Ti HRR 490V earlier in the 80s.

Neither show on DVLA as existing.

An a set of gold alloys...
Saw this yesterday on t'internet, it's low mileage, don't recall if original or restored but lets face it, it is hardly in original specification with lights, alloys, webers etc. so surely worth less to the person who wanted an original spec car. It's more like an Escort made up to be a Mexico or similar.....

As a previous owner of a Sunbeam Lotus, I could be tempted back into classics with something like this ...... but definitely not at that price.

When it's parked in front of a white background.

Not a hope !
I had one back in the day.
A few period mods on mine and I had painted the bottom third in burgundy metallic in contrast with its original gold paint .
It was fun to throw about down the local lanes .

145lb forest spec springs on the front most likely.

I had a black Series 2 Ti in the mid 80's. Series 2 Ti's were very rare, even back then.

Can't remember the reg number now though......boxedin MPL 995W rings a bell, but can't be 100% on that.

My cousin's FiL at the time (early 80's) had a GLS from new, a S1 in a silver-blue colour. Think it was a T or V reg.

£17k......is a little strong me thinks for that. Half that....maybe, just if the shell is mint?

True, although my ti did have a tendency for the back to try and overtake the front in the rain!

Isn't this the car that featured in Talbot's advertising literature back in the day, minus the gold wheels?

Not sure if there was any provenance regarding that, but did hear or read something about it.

The ebay ad says there's a copy of the original advertising material showing the car (or a car with that reg!)

It also says 5 speed box - assuming that doesn't mean 4 and reverse, I guess that's more likely to be a type 9 than a Lotus (Getrag?) one.

It will be a Type 9 I’m sure, never heard of anyone using the ZF on the standard engine, but you never know.

That's why you fitted a quick rack and a nice thick rim steering wheel.

And for a Ti, a set of shorter rear springs......

Especially with that reg number, being only 2 digits after the reg number on Des O'Dell's personal Sunbeam-Lotus biggrin
