After always loving my older German metal and in particular 6 cylinder offerings from BMW and VW, owning a few of each including e30 & e36 325i's, many, many old Golf mk2 Gti's, a Corrado VR6 with heated Recaros that I really wished had air conditioning as it may have stayed I started looking at Golf VR6's as they were fitted with air conditioning. These were bordering on big money now and mostly all rotten and it turns out you can get a mk5 R32 for that kind of budget now. After getting burned by one from a dealer a couple of years back (2007 dsg with jerky dsg and a mis fire caused by stretched chains) I always wanted another but manual and in the lower tax bracket with cloth interior plus no rust. Well one appeared 200 miles away and I went and looked, it had 165k on it and much recent big spends for clutch, air conditioning compressor, Michelin ps4s, etc etc. Oh and 1 owner who used it to fly up and down the motorway. Negotiated a deal on it and its now sat at home. It's a lower spec model but I much prefer it all I want is that engine, a manual gearbox and air conditioning, I will get cruise control retro fitted and the one option it does have is a sunroof which is awesome for letting in some more noise.. Everything feels tight and it shows that it's been looked after, more so than my 95k mile one with supposed FSH.
Here it is:

Feels like a bit of a unicorn being the lower tax and actually low owner in real nice condition and also the same price as a ropey mk3 VR6 goes for, it is the last of this formation on a VW and hell it sounds so good for stock.
So time to get some road trips in and get it racking up some more miles!

Lovely, these have become a real classic and strangely more desirable than they ever felt when new, almost a bygone era.

Can only go up in value as comparatively rare compared the fast Golfs of late.

Funnily enough I've seen loads on the roads lately.

Still have fond memories of mine. It's still on the road so I hope someone's enjoying it. Must be on pretty high miles by now though.

Enjoy, It looks a good one but being from Aberdeen check it thoroughly for corrosion under those sill covers.

Nice to see another standard one, I was out in the wife’s one earlier and I absolutely love it

I have seen a few going about since getting rid of my old one and always wanted another if the right one appeared at the right price. Although a lot of them are pretty gangstered out now. They must be hitting the bottom of their value at these prices. The final iteration of the Golf VR6 for me and a bit of a hero car that absolutely makes no sense really but there is something about them gets under your skin, the mk5 is a modern car that almost shouldn't have such an engine but they persevered and made it happen in a very nice low key package.

I'll have to get them off at some point as I want to remove the foam pads behind the wings. The wings are absolutely clean though no signs of the usual corrosion there at least.

Very nice, they do wear miles well and good to know its had a fresh clutch too. Following with interest, I've had 2 as well, resisting temptation for a 3rd, currently looking for another car at the moment, but feel I need to try another 6cy, poss a e90 330i.

Lovely cars, I like the fact it’s manual and has cloth too.

I had a mk 4 R32 back when they were pretty new and loved it. What a sound they have and actually liked the handling and general drive, the throttle response was insane. Always thought it could have done with about 100bhp more though (just like my clio V6) I’d imagine a supercharged one would be about right.

You're right the throttle response is insane, almost wondering if it needs mapping to smooth it out, just wants to go in every gear from very low down! I'll get the cruise fitted ASAP so as not to lose my licence..

Bad time to get a car it would seem!
As I've been off work I decided I'd get the wheels off and arch liners out to remove the foam and clean out the dirt trap at the bottom of the wings.
Took around an hour and was good to get underneath and check it out.
Looks to have had 2 genuine replacement wings fairly recently so foam already removed.
Cleaned out the crud on drivers side and strangely none whatsoever in passenger side was like new.
Let it run up to temp and moved it around, left parked in gear with no handbrake now.
Also black is a pain in the @ss to keep clean.
Covered in dust within a couple of days.

Gave the Mrs E91 325i touring a clean as well as the R32. Much easier colour that hides the filth well!

Nice to see that the wings have been done, there can’t be many of these left with original wings that are not rotten.

Genuine R mats too, ours are in the boot, use the rubber ones as the genuine R mats are like unicorn poo.

I agree, black is a nightmare I hate trying to keep on top of it.

Interested to find out how much you got this for if you paid roped Golf VR6 money for it.....

Used some old Poor Boys World black hole detailer on it came up lovely, still needed a coat on top to seal it really which I didn't get round to!
Yes most of the jobs that need doing on these are done, except for the big one (timing chains) there is a chance they have been done looking at the way its been looked after. Vcds readings are good and it's not too noisy.
Seem to be a few around this price that are pretty ropey, high owners, messed about with so was very happy with this one. Found it on AT, suspect it would have gone if it was posted on one of the Facebook pages or ebay.

That looks great for the age & mileage - I’d be chuffed with it too! I’ve always liked sporty Golfs (except the mk3 which was goping!)

That looks great for the money, same as what my wife paid for her 2006 car with one owner but 114k when it was traded in to her work

I’d love another Mk3 VR6 but there’s not many decent ones left. My father in law has owned his since new, it’s just turned 25k and is mint, won’t sell it

Laser blues are pretty rare aren't they?

Tax wise pre March 31st 2006 I believe is the cut off, only seems to be a few mk5 R32s in this bracket. Mine is registered about 2 weeks before and costs £325 per year.

Post March 31st 2006 it was about £580 for my old DSG, manuals are actually more but not sure exactly how much!

It's not much extra in the scheme of things to be honest an extra £20 a month over an earlier one.

Seems we have a water ingress from somewhere! Drivers front and rear footwell carpets wet.
Ran curtain wire down the front sunroof drains, passenger side was blocked and let a load of water out the wheel arch so not sure why drivers side is wet?!
Will remove the pillar trims and check the drain pipe hasn't come apart.
Ordered a spline socket set to remove the seats and wiper puller to check under the scuttle. Wet vacced what I could from the top of the carpet for now.
