Hi,

Yesterday the sound in my car stopped working / working intermittently.(All other systems look to be functioning fine)

In the evening I checked fuses and they all seem fine.

Then I checked the amplifier, located in the boot on the left side. I noticed some water around the amp, got a cloth in around the amp and it came out soaking. Did my best to dry the area.

Sound still works intermittently, but my real concern is how water ended up in that location.
I presume a seal is worn somewhere on the boot perhaps?
Has anyone had this issue, what was the cause / resolution?

I've the car booked into BMW next week for them to investigate, no doubt there will be a hefty bill on the way.

Thanks.

Various posts about this. The seals on the roof are not great, drainage holes get blocked, car drowns itself. Most common issue is substantial water (probably more than you’ve found) and drowning of amp. Realistically the seals need to be changed as they redesigned them.
I had mine all done following my 65 plate 4 Convertible becoming a bathtub. Then also had to separately have the windscreen seal done as it started leaking from the top of the A pillar.
Good luck!

Regarding my specific issue;
I loosened the side skirts - starting with drivers side. I measured approx. 10 litres of water drained.
I then tried the passenger side thinking there would be loads of water again, as the amp is this side - but not much water drained.
Next loosened rear pan behind wheel, no water found.
Finally put the roof down and inspected the seals on the boot, to my uneducated eye they looked OK.

So off to dealer it is, wish me luck!

Drainage holes blocked, not helped by position of side skirts.
Technical fix carried out - believe this consisted of drilling a few holes to stop water gathering.
Good will from BMW absorbed most of the cost from my point of view.

I seem to be having the same issue with my F33 16 plate. How old is your car , as I believe if I take mine in to BMW they'll make me cover all cost with the car being 4 years old.

My car is just over 4 years old.
I bought it from the dealer just under 3 years ago and have bought a few cars from them which helped with the 'good will'

Hello,
So I have had the same issue. Door sills not draining. Amp was flooded. BMW modified the drains. I then paid out almost a thousand pounds to have another amp fitted.
It has happened again!! Water on the amp. No sound from the speakers. Had the drains checked that were modified & they are all clear & working.
The water must be coming in from somewhere else now.
I am so fustrated! Any advice please?
