Vulcan Bomber taxi run at Wellesbourne 19th June

For the Vulcan fans out there:

I just read in the Stratford Herald that the Vulcan at Wellesbourne airfield (XM655) will be doing a full throttle run down the runway on Sunday 19th June, starting with a low power taxi run at 11am and a full power run at 2pm if all goes well...

Anyone else going to be going?

Remember when I was stationed on Gan in the Maldives in 1970 and one of them Vulcan Feckers did a full power take off at 2.30 in the morning. Think he woke the whole Island up and suspect the natives on the next Island must have thought it was Armaggedon

I remember an article written in a aviation magazine about the time the Vulcan was taken out of service. One of the things it said was this:

'Very few aircraft were so graceful in flight. Everyone will miss them. Even the poor deafened farmers of Lincolnshire.'

Irronically enough, I was driving past RAF Waddington today and I noticaed that they've moved the Vulcan there out to the end of the runway by the road. So I hastily got the camera phone out for a quick snap. Innevitably the picture has come out a bit crap but nonetheless it was great to see the plane again.



I might go back there tomorrow with my digi cam for some proper shots if the sun comes out.

Saw the Southend one do a fast run recently at the airshow. Noisy but all over too quickly (am sure the girlfriend says the same about me)

Great news Fatboy, takes me back to the early '60's when I was an apprentice. The Vulcans then moved around from base to base under their nuclear role as you may know, and were painted anti-flash white.

They spent some months at the "Burtonwood" airbase near Warrington, and on take off did a tight turn and used to come over our workshops still at very low level. Nearly broke every window in the place! ............

P.S....They still look GREAT in white!
