Heavy weight when changing gear
Discussion
Hi,
Golf MK6 GT TDI manual.
The gear shift sometimes feels very heavy and notchy. I do have a dragging clutch, which needs doing; suspected slave cylinder.
But the gearbox even when the engine is shut off is heavy to move sometimes, then other times silky smooth..
For an example: say in 4th gear, then pushing to neutral. There is this noticeable resistance to overcome, before the stick then "pops" into neutral, likewise doing the other direction.
From researching, there are springs that cause this resistance. But why would the force of this resistance be so random?
When driving the notcy-ness it always there. In my MK5 which I think is the same Borg Warner gearbox, the shift was always so easy.
Thanks
Fred
