V8S tyres no longer made

Oh crap, the Bridgestone SO3's are no longer made in 205/55/15Z. There are no other decent tyres in the 205/60/15Z size made either. I have been quoted £76.20+vat on some goodyear F1's in 205 / 55 /15Z, are these any good.

The choices for cars with smaller rims are getting smaller :weeping: I have also been told the prices of tyres have gone up a lot over the last year :weeping: :(

Anyone got some useful advice.

There has been a lot of Tyre talk recently here , and I think the majority of posters reckoned Toyos are pretty good .

The Goodyear Eagle F1's are good tyre for road use plenty of grip...... even quiet good when cold as well.

I have no experience of them on tracks.... but some say that the tyre wall gives a bit more then the Bridgestones.... but I guess that is putting them to thier limits

Have you not read any of the tyre posts for 18 months? SO3s are not made at all. The Goodyear GSD2 is probably the best 205/60/15. The G3s are very good. Prices have generally come down recently. The price that you have been quoted would have been over £100 four years ago.
In order to use UHP rubber at the front you need to change rims, as many have done; 215/45/17 is ideal dimensionally and 205/55/16 is pretty good. Annoying isn't it? The only exception is 13" due to race car regs being fixed in the late 60s - this effects every6thing from caterhams to F1.

I am using the Goodyear F1 on my V8S and they are great. They are soly on my track rims and are every bit as good as SO2's, wear well (well as well as can be expected for track use). Good in both wet and dry track so do not rull them out.

I only bought the last set of SO3's about 10 months ago AFAIK they were still being made then. I paid £70 each including VAT and fitting, I should have bought an extra set.

I am not going to change my rims unless I really have to, I like the OZ 7 spokes. Unless I upgrade the brakes they stay put.

At this rate i will have to stockpile the F1's in 205/55/15, or I'll be on no-frills rubber in a couple of years.

i am confused now are you saying you can't get UHP rubber tyres to fit on standard rims ?

I'm saying that you need to change tyre dimensions. The Dunlop wouldn't be my first choice but it's a good example. You can have a 205/55/15 or a 205/50/16, both of which are a little small but you can't have a 205/60/15 or a 205/55/16; you can have a 225/50/16 but you may not want rubber that wide on the front. It's the same problem for 90% of wedges. You have to comprimise somewhere: the composition of the rubber, the dimensions of the tyre or fit non-standard wheels. I went for the 205/55/15 option. GreenV8S has gone for the 16" wheel option.
