So my old dog car is in need of some attention (it is 17 years old)

Headlights: candles would be more effective, so what are my options for improvement in the light department?

Aftermarket headlamps?
Decent bulbs?

Halogen headlamps on dip have always been poor on the A6 (C5) too. Perhaps someone will gave a solution for both vehicles? Please!

Other than retrofitting genuine xenons (second hand), your best bet is better bulbs. Philips Xtreme Vision or Osram Nightbreaker.

Osram Nightbreaker Unlimited; very good value and easily as good as the claims they make.

H7 across the board - so 4 to cover both headlights?

If you want to go belt and braces you could; they're transformative on dipped beam alone.

A headlamp polishing kit might help if yours are a bit faded/pitted with age.

Ordered.

Thank you.

I did look at some used HID units but I’ll hold off on those to see if these bulbs make a difference.

My '05 B6 Audi A4 Avant sport I have fitted a 6000k HID kit (projector headlights) and changed the sidelights to LED bulbs, made a massive difference.

What is this sorcery you speak of?

I have a 17 year old A4 B6 and the front fog light bulbs are still original. Which is remarkable as it eats bulbs like a rodent

Staying legal and passing MOTs with xenon conversions isn't worth it:

I've run the Osrams in several of my own cars with halogens and felt no need to spend more on xenons. Even if you *do* fit the xenon units, washers, and levelling you'd then want to put decent quality bulbs in anyway as the standard Audi ones are lacklustre and the chinese stuff from ebay rubbish.
