Wedding Photographer - how much?

I did one recently for £350 (excluding prints), from 1pm until 10.30pm so it included service, reception and party.

check the overall package i.e. how many pictures you are allowed for the final wedding album i.e. they WILL charge you a ridiculous sum for additional pictures!
Try to use a personal recommendation if possible (check out their album first!). My mate got stuck with the "in house" photographer in his wedding, and his wedding pics are shite! (plus the bride was most upset when she didn't see ANY full frontal picture in her wedding dress!!
Have you looked at a reportage photographer? My best mate used a recommend one for his wedding and his wedding pics looks great. This guy was so stealthy, you never knew if he was around snapping away at you. Every picture was so natural and he captures so many moments during the day which a "formal" guy won't get i.e. no false smiles or body language. They will also do formal pictures too for the collection.

Prices generally start at £1250, the sky is the limit depending on what albums etc. you want! I should point out that we do not charge ridiculous prices for extra prints as some people do, and in fact hardly anyone wants extras - our base package comes with 110 9"x6" or bigger prints.
I am in fact doing the wedding of a PHer's sister in a months time, maybe that person will identify himself here...?
I won't start a film vs. digital debate, but suffice it to say my old 6MP camera prints very well up to A3 size, and the new tool has 16MP, the results have to be seen to be believed. Medium/Large format is definately not required even if you are thinking about getting a billboard made up.

If you have the EOS 1d Mk IIs then Canon make a compelling argument that it as just as good as film.

We've booked our photographer for next year - gone for a good photographer (with assistant) and a pretty-good package, for ~£1,300.
Have a look on www.hitched.co.uk - that is, if Mrs Dibble-to-be isn't already on there. It's a very good weddings discussion forum - post up a question there saying where you are and you'll get a fair few recommendations.

I'm tempted to offer my videoing for free. I've done a few bits and pieces, for friends. I take the footage, and turn it into a DVD. The ceremony, reception etc etc, then take the important bits, and condense them into a 3-4 minute video.

Oh, and even though I'm darn sarf, I've got a load of relatives up your way to justify the trip.

some fantastic work in there......really beautiful....and a great package, including the DVD etc. Quality website too.....seriously impressed. 
LB I'd echo the recommendation route, and also reportage style.
The photographers who did my wedding also did both my siblings weddings, and have done probably seven of our friends weddings since due to our recommendation - everyone chuffed with the results.
Not cheap (I think about £1100), but something that shouldn't be scrimped on imho - good reportage wedding photos really capture the day.
I look at mine now, 5 years later and they really bring the day to life.
