planning on doing one, maybe two long touring trips in US. 90 days, possibly longer with visa.
naturally a V8 appeals rather than a Corolla. trying to work out how to do it.... ideas anybody?

- are there long term rental options that aren't charging same rate as 10 days?
- can i drive someone else's car??? we have relatives in MA. Is it feasible to do everything in their name, and then borrow the car for 90 days? In the UK we have 'fronting', but in the US the car is insured not the person. Also, i'd not be a regular user, just using it for a long holiday. rest of the year it's at their house.

open to ideas to avoid a Corolla...

I assume you have read the driving lic. thread re buying a car..

So yes, you could fund them the price of the car and comprehensive insurance. You would need to indemnify them against any liability.
Buying a two of three year old car would limit the loss when selling.

You might also want to consider a few V6s they don't have the grunt of a V8 but they have plenty of whoosh. Easier resale, and less initial outlay.

can't see any other relevant thread in USA ?

i drive the in-laws cars all the time. just wondered whether a cop in new mexico might have a problem with an alien driving a MA car so far away (and therefore clearly for a long time).

true about V6, but then....
