just seen on ceefax that a mother who "cooked" her baby son on top of an oven (the kid died from 90% burns), has been given a "guardianship" supervision order....
I have no idea what that is, but if she was so irresponsible and remedial herself to place a baby on an ignited oven then she a)should not have been allowed to reproduce and b)should spend a very long time in clink or in the funny farm.
Some people are so desperate to have children and cant for several reasons and would have given this one a loving and secure home, yet this child was left with this excuse for a human.
Makes me sick.

That reminds me of this case I heard a while ago of a woman in America (where else) who tried to sue Moulinux I think it was, because it didn't clearly state in the operating instructions of her shiny new microwave that she couldn't dry little "tiddles" in it after she had bathed him.
"Tiddles" ended up an omlette IIRC. The woman, in some distress, immediately got on the phone to the manufacturers help line complaining.
Would love to have been in the call centre for that one.

unfortunatly I find it hard to look beyond that, it was a total and utter waste of life and if social services had been on the ball they would have taken this child off its mother and given the child to someone that had half a braincell.
Obviously she is sick - and you cant stop people from reproducing.

Much as I share your horror with this childs death, child birth does bring very real risks of psychosis and unfortunately when these problems are not picked up, very real tragedies like this can, do and will happen.

Correct. She is obviously not well and needs help. You wouldn't normally, even the most clumsy of us, leave a child on a lit stove.
A mothers paternal instinct is extremely powerfull and overides many higher brain function processes. So for her to do this suggests that there is in fact a deep underlying psychological inbalance.

What she has done is pure evil.
What part of psychosis don't you understand, chances are she was suffering puerperal psychosis which isn't "pure evil" but a statistically significant side effect of childbirth. Most probably why she didn't get jailed in the first place.
At the other end of the spectrum is the truly devastating puerperal psychosis. A comparatively rare disease, it complicates only 0.1% to 0.2% of deliveries--but this is 12 to 14.5 times the prenatal incidence of psychosis........snip a bit

Clearly this woman was ill, too ill to be left alone with a kid. This is the PC world where people in authority are so reluctant to take action for fear of being wrong.

We need to get back to a situation where mentaly ill people are helped in appropriate hostles / hospitals, where they have to take the treatment, not as we have now where ill people are expected to keep appointments.
It is tragic that cost and so called freedoms have lead to another death at the alter of care in the community.
