Kids paying for their keep
Discussion
My daughter will be starting Work soon and we have asked her for a meer sum of £10.00 per week for her board, she has gone :yikes:balistic about paying this ammount,
any suggestions on how much is an acceptable ammount, bearing in mind she will come out with £70.00 a week.
Thanks in advance.

If they're doing nothing else but work then it sounds fair as they should be working full time, however it seems harsh if they're also at college/uni. My mum certainly didn't ask anything from me when i worked whilst at college, or in holidays now and i try and save it myself - at least then I learn to manage my own money.
Cheers,
Rob.

Depends on whether she is studying at the same time I suppose.
When she is in full time employment £40 pw would be fair.

if she's earning £70 per week then I think £10 per week is perfectly fair enough

I think it should be about 15% of earnings. I always paid about that, when I moved out though, my Mum and Dad gave it all back to me with the interest, I would never have saved that much.
That was almost exactly what me ex and I had discussed doing with her 3, but we had settled on 25%.
at the end of the day I have more than a few friends who are only just leaving home at the age of 27+ because they had to pay £25 per week to their folks, yet in one case was earning well over £20k p.a.

Same here 15%, gets you used to the fact that not all the money you earn will be yours to spend
When I left college, I used to give my Mum £15 a week out of my Supplemetary Benefit. (I couldn't get dole at the time) That left me with £17.50 a week but I still went out 3 nights a week, smoked on the sly and had use of a car. Not bad when I can't do the same n ow and i'm on loads of dosh.
£10 a week, Nah, Double It!
