Just bought a MK5 Golf Gti and the rear badge has white worm. I popped down to my dealer only to be told I need to replace the entire boot lock mechanism at nearly 200 quid, when I was hoping I could just replace the badge.

Is this right, or is there another way to do it?

Yeah, I know I can, but I keep seeing things saying you can't prise the badge off and replace it. Have you done it, or do you know of a guide on how to do it?

You don't need to prise it off... just replace the whole thing. After 06/07 they changed the design of the rear badge because of this white worm issue, So maybe look at replacing it with a newer one.

Some info here.

As above - find a decent one and replace it. Think the mk6 fits it too.

Its a pretty easy job - the biggest pain is getting the lower boot trim off (requires a damn good pull) but thats nothing compared to trying to get the bugger back on! Is a DIY job though...
