I originally popped this in the heard the fairy tale of New York yet" thread but think its relevant elsewhere.
To me the most perfect of all Christmas songs are to be found on one album

Amusing how over the years more and more of its songs have been borrowed for the NOW Christmas Albums of that particular year. I believe that the NOW Christmas Albums vary slightly from year to year

People of various gender I give you the genius that is Phil Spector:

A Christmas Gift For You from Phil Spector

The whole album is just joyous and I can't say that about any other Christmas album I have heard.

Other songs we will always play are the following. Most are by the more popular version

01 Do They Know It's Christmas!
02 Happy Xmas (War Is Over)
03 Fairytale of New York
04 Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow Dean Martin
05 I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day
06 Merry Xmas Everybody
07 All I Want For Christmas Is You
08 I Believe In Father Christmas
09 Last Christmas
10 Driving Home For Christmas
11 Proper Crimbo (Yes really)
12 2 Become 1
13 Stay Another Day
14 Step Into Christmas
15 The Power of Love
16 When A Child Is Born
17 Wonderful Christmas Time
18 Christmas Wrapping
19 Save The Best For Last
20 Santa Baby - Eartha Kitt
21 The Perfect Year
22 Mary's Boy Child
23 Lonely This Christmas
24 Merry Christmas Everyone
25 See The Day
26 The Power Of Love
27 Another Rock and Roll Christmas (err we like the song)
28 A Spaceman Came Travelling (2018 Nina Nesbitt vocal)
29 One More Sleep (Leona Lewis - we love this she pitches it perfectly )
30 Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas
31 Rockin around the Christmas Tree

Love the Greg Lake one. Of the lesser known ones though...

Oceansize's cover of 'Walking In The Air' cloud9

Smith and Burrows - 'As The Snowflakes Fall' https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lSybFXusB1s
Or 'When The Thames Froze' - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=644U-jMpDUw (Ok, not the most cheery!)

Number 6 is becoming very tedious now even more so than number 3 and 1.

Totally fed up with 'the usual suspects', to be honest. Even old favourites like Greg Lake (I Believe In Father Christmas) and The Pogues (Fairytale Of New York) are waning.

Recently discovered new gems (as in the last few years) are...

Chris Squire - Run With The Fox
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IUkwXavUhm4

and...

Rob Halford's brilliant Winter Songs album...

I tend to listen to classical stuff, too. London Symphony Orchestra (Con. Sir Colin Davis) with John Alldis Choir is probably my favourite Yuletide album - dark and sweeping.

To my ear, that absolutely dreadful. I’m curious as to why you like it.

I much prefer the haunting beauty of the traditional versions. My opinion, of course.

Listening to the radio today and they jokingly said...forget investing in a pension, write a Christmas song!
They then reeled off some figures for example...
Wham- Last Christmas est. £340k per year
Slade- Merry xmas everyone est. £500k per year! eek

There’s a new one by Scouting for girls called Let’s not go away. It’s growing on me and worth a listen.

This came on on the radio in work a few years ago. It was around 1am and I had a quiet half hour to myself. Was a lovely 4 minutes.
