Have you tried teflon lined cables?

Are you sure it's notchy throttle? Is it uneven when you back off the throttle or are you getting high idle speeds? If it's a high idle then it's also worth checking to see whether you have a vacuum leak on the carb.

i've had the same problem. broke one cable and i've replaced it from the factory (approx 40 pounds) and thats gone tight after 300 miles. going to a bicycle shop tomorrow for some quality cable.

It's odd how some last and some don't!

The factory supplied cable on mine has given no problems. Over 3,000 miles and it's still fine.

I wonder if it has anything to do with how it's routed through to the engine?

Try giving Terry a call at VENHILL on 01306 885111...email info@venhill.co.uk . They already have the measurements etc for the Ultima and provide a first class product and service. My throttle is smooth as silk using their teflon/stainless cable...cheaper than the factory too!!!

I had problems with the vehicle from new in the form of lumpy throttle at all speeds. I sent my car to the factory for a post "Le Mans" check up (The vehicle was run in on the way to Le Mans) and when I got it back they told me I was only getting half throttle due to the adjustment. I was already impressed with the performance of the vehicle but when I first got in after having it adjusted it was like getting in an Ultima the first time - the speed now was even more awesome.
A new problem now came to light in that when thrashing the vehicle and getting it warm the throttle occasionally stuck on. This is a little scary when taking a friend out and trying to impress them by leaving braking into a T junction fairly late but confident in the Ultima's brakes only to find the throttle sticking open at 4500rpm. Every cloud has a silver lining as I now have even more confidence in the brakes despite my trousers probably being a darker shade of brown than the passengers. It was also very embarrassing, as I had to stop the car right outside a pub and about 20 p!$$ed up blokes came out to see what the thundering noise was outside. I then had to let the engine cool before I could free the sticking throttle.
Back to my point: - The problem I then had was the throttle adjustment, to avoid a sticking throttle I had to back it off which meant I could not once again get full throttle.

I replaced it with a Teflon cable from Venhill and all my problems disappeared and although there is not great travel on the foot pedal with careful adjustment I can now get full, smooth throttle without it sticking on.

Me too: got a teflon coated cable from Venhill, in addition wrapped some heat protection material around in the areas close to the exhaust.
Then I also replaced the throttle return spring by stronger ones (set of 2 springs, which - I am convinced - helped a lot to have better control and smooth operation.

Yup, Terry has the measurements as he made me up the first cable when I approached them for the GTR

Definitely agree that return spring helps a lot. When I first bought my Sports I had problems with the throttle sticking open. GRL in Woking blamed a weak return spring and replaced it with two springs when they sorted my Holley out. Not had a problem since. As far as I know my throttle cable is the original (which makes it 7 years old).

You might also like to look at the bracket which holds the outer cable above the throttle pedal. I found this had bent over it's 90 degree position and was causing alot of friction. Replaced the stock item with a decent lump of steel and was even able to remove one of the 2 return springs that someone had put there to overcome the friction....

Worth a try before having to route a new cable.

I too have a cable from Venhill and although mine isnt being used in anger yet the action of the teflon coated cale through the sheath is excellent , even with the cable coiled there is hardly any resistance. i have also tried the factory cable which does seem to have a lot more resistance.

Not the best idea.
The double spring is there so that if one breaks you still have a return. Minimum of 2 springs are, I believe, a requirement in motorsport.

If it is not too heavy I would put it back on.

It's not a requirement to have two springs in motorsport, but it's a good idea!

I had two springs at the pedal end and two at the carb and on the GTR, not to mention the teflon cable. Throttle action was perfect, but vacuum leak on carb caused high idle.

The Ultima Factory now sell the Venhill cable plus other bits needed in a kit for £37.

So I´m not the only one with throttle problems. Good to hear that there are solutions.I´ve received my new cable from the factory. Still havent changed it mine is only sticking when the enginge is hot otherwise its ok
It is feeling fuzzy though which it didn´t used to be.
Guess I´ll fit my cable after le mans. Not taking the ultima this year anyway.

I´ll have to have a look at the routing as well I guess now it´s all according to the manual, but my car is a LHD.

Rule of thumb is to make as easy a route as possible for the cable, with no tight bends etc.

Replacing the existing one is fun I can tell you!

Make sure you tape the new one to the old FIRMLY before pulling through. If it pulls free, you've got a real job on your hands rethreading it through the side pod.
