Just a few days away from wish fulfillment, I find I am searching the classified ads everywhere. I can't wait to become an elise owner!

I am really looking for a 111S but wouldn't a standard car with the PTP165 kit be similar/the same? (exept for the beautifull wheels of course). Has anybody tried the kit? Would you recommend it? I'm not really worried about resale value, I'm going to keep my baby for a looong time.

I found a car that is cobalt blue with beige trim, just the colour I am looking for in the PH ads (http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/detail.asp?i=42490&s=12) but I'm worried about the CAT D part. Does that mean the car was crashed? Maybe it was very mistreated when stolen? Should I steer clear and buy from a more "certain" source?

So what do you think? Should I really try to stretch to a 111S or is the S2+PTP165 more or less the same thing?

Thank you so much for your comments!! Can't wait to find a suitable car and become an elise driver :driving:

The bloke who's selling this car is Junks (Phil) and he is a well known memeber of the Lotus community. Drop him a line and ask him about the car and I'm pretty sure he'll be totally open and honest with you about it.

Then you'll be able to make your mind up with all the facts.

Class D usually means the car was not badly damaged but was replaced due to the Insurance having the "replacement" option ticked. IE scratch it in the first year and they just but you another.

Cat D is basically repairable but damaged/written off. As recommended talk to Junks (also on SELOC forum) and get the full info.

Basically get it checked out v. carefully by a specialist if you want it and be aware that resale will be less easy and the value will be substantially reduced due to the cat D listing. Is there any history with it?

However, if it's ok mechanically and structurally you may well get a bargain.

Alex,

In reality the engine only counts for a small difference between standard S1 and 111s. The close ratio gear box makes a bigger difference though.

I just love the whole 111s package though, the VVC does sound great on full chat, bigger wheels, nicer seats, spoiler, headlamp covers just make a special car just a little more special.

I'd holdout for a 111s or a sport 135.

I think I'll try to stretch to the 111S, it will be my daily driver, so I'll apreciate the extra comfort and poke.

Thanks for the advice, It's been really usefull! I'll expect to be contributing the the forum as soon as I choose the right car, cheers.

I got the impression you were looking at the S2.

S2 has close ratio box as standard. S2 111S does NOT have CR box.
