Rolex ad in Car Magazine

I just noticed an ad' for a Rolex inside the front cover of this months "Car" magazine - the issue with the various convertibles and roadsters in it (including the Tuscan 2 convertible).

The watch has a dark relfex green face, which I rather liked :) Anyone with the mag able to let me know exactly what model it is? R...

It's a white gold Daytona with an optional meteorite dial if my memory serves me correctly.

Probably about £12k's worth.

They do charge a daft premium for a meteorite dial - almost twice the price. The meteorite is only worth a £50 at most.

Mind you, I have a meteorite dial watch and they do look nice...

OK I've worked it out I's a Daytona Cosmograph in 18ct gold with a black mother of pearl dial (looks dark green) arabic numerals and a tan leather strap. Anyone got any idea rough price? Rich...

Can't find the exact model in the price list I have to hand (April 2004 issue) but the price for 18ct gold with black Mother-of-Pearl face on a Leather strap then was.......... £10,730

Daytona's are good watches - but there are plenty better in my opinion. There is currently a very long waiting list (several years in fact), and second hand ones command a hefty premium over list - eg. a stainless steel Daytona has a RRP of around £3600, Second hand you are looking at about £5500.

The meteroite dial is a massive premium for a thin slice of metrite worth around £50 maximum (I know because I don't just collect watches, I also collect meteorites).

But if you really want Gold you can find them in the shops with no waiting list, and if your local place hasn't got one in stock, your only looking at a few weeks wait, the only Daytona with a waiting list is the all Steel model, it's also the only one that commands a premium second hand, a used Gold Daytona is worth about half what you paid for it, I nearly bought a 'yellow metal' model while I was waiting for my Steel one, it was in the Jewellers I was on the list with and was 'as new' and for sale for £3,500

No reason why not
I had my datejust changed from a nasty pink face to white, this also involved a new date reel and new hands, but unless you know a man I wouldn't expect it to be cheap.

Don't pay a penny more than list, Airkings only have a few weeks wait if you want a spec that your dealer hasn't got in stock
If you don't know what your looking at I'd avoid EBay or'll you'll spend £500 on a £5 Koren Import
Somewhere like Second Time Round might be a good place to start looking, or depending where you live, most big towns will have a second hand watch dealer somewhere close, it's always best to actually go and touch something rather than mail order dodgyness

Another vote for what raceboy said. Speak to Trevor or one of his sons at Second Time Round. Following a recommendation from another PHer, I've bought a few watches from them and been very happy with the service.
