Vickers VC10 - 1/72nd Scale

For those of you feeling brave and with plenty of spare space, how do you fancy a model of the iconic VC10 in 1/72nd scale.

I'm surprised Airfix haven't done one TBH.

In my top three beautiful aircraft. Actually, I think it's top. There is no better looking aeroplane IMO.

Airfix did a 1:144 version. If you look at the nose of the Mach 2 release it’s totally wrong.

Yep - general consensus is that the nose is pretty poor. Mach 2 has a bit of a reputation I'm afraid.

Airfix's 1/144 version ( which is over 50 years old) has problems too although there are corrections available to make it better.

In more recent years, Roden have produced quite a nice Super VC10 in 1/144 scale too.

This one is a fairly good kit, I built one a few years ago. A bit rough round the edges but that was probably more me rushing it rather than it being a poor kit, as you can see here I did find the transparency for the cockpit windows was a bit wider than the fuselage, but nothing some sanding and filling couldn't have sorted.



Speaking of Roden kits, some of their box art is really good, I had their 1/48 Mohawk a few years ago and (including A4 poster of it inside) the boxart was a moody picture more akin to a Tangerine Dream album cover:
