There's a viper for sale at Specialist Cars in Malton with lots of performance upgrades; does anyone know much about the car? I'd be interested in knowing a little bit about it. I am not necessarily in the market but as i used to have a '97 GTS i still have a hankering for the marque.

Without even looking we can say it’s mostly likely Barry’s yellow RT, fab car no expense spared in the mods. It’s been for sale for a while, so it’s over priced. I think they offered to sell back to Barry for about £40k last year. Barry had a red gen1 when you had the 97

Thanks Neil

I sort of recognised it but wasn't sure. Its a mega car. Baz - where are you? What do you think?

Yes it is Barrys old car. It's been for sale at their showroom for over 2 years. The car was test driven and reviewed in Supercar Drivers Club magazine (I gave my copy to Barry) maybe 18 months ago

I had a look round it when I attended their charity breakfast meet in 2017, when it was priced at £74,995.

I couldn't believe the latest price when I just looked online (£34,995) it's got to be a bargain now.

Aren't they getting bad press at the moment ?

Its interesting the nature of the price drop - not sure what is going on there. Well spotted re the article. Has to be said I have been more of a GTS fan but the RT/10 is a stunning example of what you can do with upgrading performance.

Hi there. Doing ok. I have downsized on cars recently to best match my semi-retired state. I have been driving an RS4 B5 (the Cosworth engine is epic), plus still have a race car - e46 M3 - but not driven it on the track for ages - so its been sent out to pasture and really need to move that on. Also a little Cooper S JCW for fun (again that needs to go).

How did the RT/10 escape? What are you driving now and are you still looking after other Vipers? How's wife / family?

That's close to what WBAC offered for my unmodified GTS last year!

Bit of a thread resurrection, but if been seriously considering a viper for a summer evening/weekend toy and saw this car up for sale a few miles from myself and came across this thread whilst searching for info etc. I see the ex owner is on here? Is it a good example? It seems it’s up for considerably more than last time according to this thread but all ‘classics’ seem to be going up in value. I assume it’s a incredible (terrifying!) event to drive?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202008202...

Or iv also seen this lovely standard example which I’m sure will still be fast/ exciting enough for me. What are people’s views on either?

https://www.autotrader.co.uk/car-details/202010245...

Ps I’m brand new to vipers and have minimal knowledge but it’s always been a dream car of mine since a child and help/info would be much appreciated, cheers

The dealership in Malton went bust, so I guess they kept lowering the price to tempt a buyer. They didn't sell it in time, and their remaining stock got sold at auction.

There were 2 for sale in Leeds for £45,995, but one has sold https://www.aceamericanautos.co.uk/vehicle_categor...

Learn all you can about the various model changes before deciding which one is for you. Do you know pre 1996 (gen 1) had no proper side windows or roof for example?

Good luck in your search, they are all iconic cars, very rare over here, and I'm sure values will only increase. Gen 2 GTS's have certainly gone up 50% or more over the last 3-4 years

I should say my knowledge on possible issues/ things to look out for etc is minimal, although no proper roof/windows did they all come with the ‘emergency’ style weather clip in windows/ roofs? Itl only be a evening/weekend toy sort of an A to A car.
I see the yellow one has a solid roof? Is that storable in the car or still a choice of roof or not before setting off? The red states it comes with fabric roof/ windows etc.

The yellow car is a gen2, the hard roof won't fit inside the car. It was interesting seeing a few owners taking their roofs off to store in their hotel rooms in Germany when we went for a drive out! Gen 2 cars have electric windows and external door handles, and should also have a folding fabric roof that fits in the trunk.
