This case is horrific.

And the social workers dont like to get involved because they dont want to "offend the culture of these people by interfering in their customs".

I heard the woman speaking on R4 this morning (through an interpreter, she doesn't speak the language of the country she lives in of course) saying that the "Pastor agreed that the child was a witch". FFS.

It's about time someone got a grip.

Absolutely horrendous state of affairs. The fact that these people are still breathing is beyond my comprehension. They give dogs a lethal injection for less.

Also heard mentioned in a related news report about "a recent rise in religious crimes". Religious crime? I'm sorry, but a crime is a crime, whatever excuse you put in front of it.

By the very nature of the crime they should have also been convicted of conspiracy. FFS, I'm sure that they at least PLANNED the actions in a premeditated way and that the "church" has a canon of punishments to be meeted out.

They want thier religion - fine - but practice it within the laws of the land that they are living in.

I read this pinnacle of motherhood didnt just hit the girl with a shoe, she would shoe ANY child who came round, because she thought they practised witchcraft too. Can anyone say MENTAL!

edited to add: Was it the pastor that later advised: normally a child suspected of witchcraft would have an amulet made for them and no "normal minded african" would deal with it like this. Can't make it up can you.
