Twenty years of hard drugs
Discussion
Not me, but I bumped into a guy who used to be a small time dealer about twenty years ago. He used to supply me with a bit of percy etc, until a big smash put me in hospital for a few months. I cleaned my act up, not by choice, it just kinda happened.
Now had I not had that accident, I just saw a vision of myself in an alternative life. This guy had sunken eyes and absolutely no idea of what was going on in the world.
He believed he retired owning 200 hair dressing salons about fifteen years ago. He actually thought he was a professional dancer now. At which point he got up on the dance floor and did that dance that only people who are seriously off their faces do.
Now the odd social spliff from time to time is no more harm than a glass of port, but hard drugs over a long time have certainly done him no favours.
It's kinda freaky how life presents crossroads and there's no signpost telling you which way to go. I give him another five years.

Yep , life does seem to have a funny way of dealing you your cards. I sure there are a fair few of us on PH who could of gone down the other path for the worse for whatever reasons. But for some reason or trigger have come out on the good/better road in life
Deffiantly an eye opener to see someone you used to knock about with and see how you have both changed for better /worse

Funny that, I know a guy who seems to be slipping into a bit of an obsession with the Devil's Dandruff.
The problem is, he is changing quite noticeably. He's become rather pale and gaunt-looking. Personality-wise, he's become very aggressive, cocky, self-obssessed and arrogant. He shows off to everyone else he knows about how much Coke he does, and he tells them how he's 'strong-willed so it isn't affecting him', yet he tells me, possibly one of his best mates, that he isn't touching the stuff (which is a lie so transparent you could use it as a window).
Now, he's a great mate of mine and I think he's slipping away, maybe even down the route described by the author of this forum.
I don't want that to happen and neither do any of his other friends.
I have a chance to shop his dealer, but it could be dangerous. Should I do it? Because I don't want to look at a wreck of a good mate in twenty years time and realise I could've done something about it.

upon grounds of personal safety, i'd consider the potential repercussions of shopping this dude.
if he doesn't know yo, can't link you, or you don't give a shit either way - shop him asap dude!
I'll nip up to york to give you some moral support if the situation with him turns ugly don't worry

If it's dangerous for you then don't do it. Your mate sounds ratehr like me when i was 18/19 and i'm fine now and my best friends are still the ones i know from before. Very few people go to such an extent that they completely ruin their life through it, just the same as everyone who drinks isn't an alcoholic and sleeping on the streets.
Your mate does sound like he's doing it for the wrong reasons (so he can look cool and brag about it, rather than because he enjoys it) so it could be a more short term thing as a result. He'll get bored/run out of cash then he can be all tough and show everyone he's strong enough to not get addicted.
Its a hard one, I would try not to get involved with anyone else appart from your friend concerned. And hard that it will be that he wont see your trying to help you'll have a long hard trip(no pun intended) to get him away and off it. I dont know how you do that pesonally but a few home truths and getting him away from teh aea if possible may be a start.

Well I'm considering doing it as I leave uni, in which case I probably won't be in the city for quite some time.
I've met the guy and unfortunately he's one of these genial types who gets on well with anyone, but has limbs like ship's pistons and an unlimited imagination, not to mention a fair few heavies.
Thankfully, he's not in the least bit interested in cars so he won't even know about this site, let alone who I am on it.
Also, he's got a girlfriend and a kid. I don't know what's worse - locking some guy's Dad up, or letting some kid grow up with a drug dealer for a Dad.
I'm in a bit of a quandary over it. I can't help thinking that my mate's one of many and I'd be doing a few people a favour, or by involving the BiB in any way I'm putting myself in serious danger if they don't keep things confidential. Also, the reason why my mate doesn't tell me what he's doing is because he knows my anti-drugs stance, so it's rather obvious, if he thinks about it hard, who it is who's shopped him if he thinks about the people who know.
He's been in prison for drugs offences before, so it's not like it would come out of the blue.
I'm quite thankful for this thread actually. I was going to do my own thread but I didn't want to draw attention to it publicly.

There is always another dealer. Is it worth the risk.
That's what I think, but you've got to bear in mind that every chain with a broken link is useless, no matter how many chains there are alongside. Surely the world without one less drug dealer is a good thing? I've just got to be careful about doing it.
