Hi

Firstly, a big hello to everyone!

I admit, I've been lurking around PH for the past 3 months reading up PH and looking for pointers on what car to buy next. My decision to buy a replacement car is all due to my recent particpations in track days, and my current car isn't the best suited vehicle for these events! I'm planning to buy my replacment car next year, but I like to do my groundwork now.

I hope you can help with my questions:

1- I believe you can buy a separate soft top to replace the hard top roof on the Exige S2? How easy is it to install / remove? Any pictures to show install this will be appreciated.

2- I read that some Exige has this gear shifter thingy. Please explain/benefits etc..?

3- What performance mods do you recommend for an Exige S2. Based on what I've read so far, the Stage 1 sport exhaust looks a good mod. Is there any other (non extreme!!) mods I should consider?

Looking forward to hear your responses.

Thanks
Tom

BTW, I forgot to mention I am interested in buying an Exige S2 + Performance & Touring pack + Aircon (colour still undecided) :-)

Hi
I have had my Exige for almost 2 months now and 2500 miles later and i am loving it.

Firstly the roof has the same fixings as a hard top on any other Elise so 3 min to take off 6 min to put back on. Two holes need to be made on the rear bulkhead above the driver and passengers heads this is to fit the support strips. So fitting a soft top is easy.
The gearshift I am not sure what you mean.
I have a stage 2 which I love but some consider too loud the word is Larini (not sure if that the correct spelling) will be producing a zaust for the Exige (I reckon they produce the best sounding zaust for a K series Elise) it might well be worth waiting for!
Induction kit is always a good idea and depending upon colour paint protection film is always good.
exige.com is worth a look as there are loads of owners of S1 and S2 Exiges there with loads of experience.

If you're going to get an Exige, non-extreme mods, touring pack and a soft top, why not just get a 111R?

www.exiges.com

is full of info, just don't mention the roof thing...

You cant get the Exige with both Touring and Performance pack. Its one or the other.
If its going to be tracked a lot go for the Performance Pack as you get sports seats and harnesses and twin oil coolers.

Air con is a must though.

As for the mods the standard car is supposed to be superb on track (mines still being run in so no action yet) as it is but you could do exhaust and induction (I have ITG induction kit and will be getting the Stage 1), upgrade the pads to Pagids and also upgrade the brake fluid.

Other than that you could get the Ohlins adjustable suspension but that is a good few grand.

I have the stage 1 exhaust, it makes a lovely sound on second cam. It's not loud enough for me so I'm going for pipercross induction next. I've also emailed Larini and the yota exhaust it is still in development but will be due soon. If you have a look on exiges.com there's a chap called Jaycee who has a blue flame exhaust which sounds very nice. Other upgrades I will be carrying out in the near future are braided hoses and pagid pads. I've done two track days and the brakes are dangerously poor now! Keep some money aside every few months for new tyres, they don't last long.

Sorry but you can order both touring and P pack packs as I almost did!
I have heard of a few people picking things out of both packs eg electric windows.
Tyres seem to last up to 6k with a couple of track days

i wouldnt exaclty call a stage 1 a performance mod. more a sound mod. having heard one i wouldnt say it was that much louder

if its hot enough for aircon, its hot enough for the roof off. so personally i wouldnt bother with aircon., its only worthwhile if you dont intend to take the roof off

as to your point two, yes the exige does have a gear stick. i think you will find all cars come with them

taking ur exige roof off will invalidate the waranty i believe.
If you want a convertable buy a 111r an add the exige bits (i'e wheels etc to it) your dealer i'm sure will be happy to oblige an you do need the aircon in an exige

only invalidates roof leaking warranty and probably roof squeaking part of warranty so nothing to worry about
