My Golf is a 68 plate but already has significant rust on the brake calipers (the block that contains the brake pad ?) and also the part of the wheel behind the alloys but in front of the disc.

Is this normal for a fairly new car ?

I assume apart from looking messy it's not a safety issue ?

How can I clean that rust away without affecting the safe working of the brakes ?

Pictures attached.

Thank You

That rusty part IsNT the brake calipre instead it’s the centre of the disc which attached to the hub.

Matters little if that rusty or not it’s appearance only you could take the rim off and wore brush it if you wanted to remove the rust

That is not part of the wheel, it is part of the brake disc. Not unusual for that part to rust.
You can take the wheel off, rub that part of the disc down and then paint with some heat resistant paint (don’t paint the friction surface of the disc or the mating face for the wheel.)

Thanks for the replies.
If it's just cosmetic and expected I will just leave it.

Cheers.

It seems common on the standard fit VW discs. I've painted mine as they look awful through five spoke wheels with big gaps.

what did you use to paint over the rust please ?

Is it safe to paint that general area ?
