Noticed first on Saturday morning drive, the car was struggling to get up to engine temp from cold as well as the oil temp not getting much higher than 60 degrees, usually around 90 -100 (oil). As I arrived at my destination, the cooling fans were going crazy. Considering I had only driven for around 20 mins and didn't put my foot down, thought it was strange..

My 20 minute journey home I can feel the fans were still running furiously.. Pulled into service station, filled it up with petrol and thought a restart might help and carried on with journey, with the fans coming back on. No warning lights on my dash, however notice the start/stop disabled, which appeared on the screen. Get back home and fans going like crazy for a good 15 minutes after car parked..

Get back into the car this morning, start it up, this time it feels like a cylinder misfire, than car settles down and fans go off again. The car is very cold, however stop/function working again.. decide not to take the car out.. Started it up again moments ago, this time no misfire, however fans going off..

Could it be some sort of temp sensor playing up, thinking the car is overheating..? Not really sure I want to drive it to the dealers in worry that I may do more damage, however I have no lights on the dash suggesting anything major..

Thoughts please?

Have you checked the coolant levels etc?

Do you have VCDS to scan for any codes that don't show up on the dash?

My B8 RS4 runs the fans for ages after a run but not on short trips like you have noted.

On further investigation, looks to be an issue on RS4 and RS5 per thread.. as a few RS4 owners have had problems..
