M5 in the workshop - some opinions please
Discussion
I think I'm probably a victim of 'forum-fear' but I've booked my M5 in tomorrow for a checkover to see that all is ok as I've noticed some 'issues'...
There is a very occasional hesitation/flatspot when accelerating (3rd/4th gear, at about 3500 rpm) - its only happened twice, but was almost like turbo lag, or clutch slip (but without the rise in revs).
There is a lot of 'hunting' when cold - especially in reverse.
It is consuming around 1 ltr of cws for every 500 miles
Any opinons on what to 'encourage' them to look for? Its under warranty, but I have to pay for the checks initially.
Cheers collective,
Max

MAF's?
Any rattling noise from the engine, or emmision light on?
What do you mean by wasting money?
They should check the car is OK if its under warranty it should cost you zip
If it rattles on sartup useses loads of oil and hesitates in midrange.
It has to be Vanos or MAF sensor and they have to check these for free don't let them squeeze money out of you

Well, apparently I have a faulty coil which is causing the occasional flatspot - a missfire apparently.
The oil consumption is down to two leaking gaskets - a rear engine gasket and a rocker cover gasket (I've never seen oil on the drive - but they say it will be leaking into the undertray!).
Both items are covered under warranty, thankfully! I'm not sure what I think about the 'oil leak' - sounds like BS to me, but I'm not a mechanic!
