Alloy wheel repair
Discussion
I went over to see the guys at wheelrefurbish.co.uk after speaking with John. After arriving they got straight to taking the wheels off to confirm a suspicion I had, the wheels weren't actually cracked and it was just the garage I had used to fit the tyres couldn't get them to seal. John spent about an hour with me, sorting out the tyre on the rim and I was on my way without having to have anything welded. I think my usual tyre fitters just couldn't be bothered to try fitting the tyre again. I had a feeling the wheels weren't cracked but with limited light when I checked and the fact that they are the BMW MV4 alloys I just assumed the worst.
While I was there I had a nose around and amongst the wheels they were repairing were some AMG diamond cuts, some X5 normal silver wheels and some Z4 split rims. All of them looked great and I'm going to go over and see them in the spring once the winter is out of the way to have the wheels refurbed. Thank you for the recommendation.

Just dropped my AMG wheels in for a refurb. John said one needs straightening but the others were OK. They laughed when I pointed to one of mine that I thought was badly damaged (they said it wasn't bad really) which was good to hear. Replacement wheels are so expensive so it's nice to know I'll be back on my "proper" wheels soon (I'm using some cheap eBay lookalikes at the mo).
Oh man - John must be proud of his work because it is reflected in the quality. I could not be happier. I asked if he'd mount and balance my new tyres too, so I'm ready for a winter trip to the Arctic circle in February, so here they are:
The price was good too. I have a spare set of similar-looking wheels (without the AMG logo) which needed a refurb last year. I paid a local shop a fair percentage of today's cost for just a paint and lacquer on those spare wheels, which now seems very overpriced compared with John's work and price. I will take the spares to John for a full refurb when the tyres are worn out.

Just revisiting this thread. My Jag is booked in for a bunch of bodywork early May. Once back, I want the alloys refurbed (super dark bronze with a matt finish I think…hmm, though I’ll probably play if same and go gunmetal grey).
Are the chaps mentioned above the place to go, or can you guys recommend anywhere else?
