Transferring a service plan to new owner?

I've just bought a used (12 month old) VW Up that has a 3 year service plan, with 2 remaining. Car was purchase from a small independant dealer.

Before I phone VW in the morning, I wanted to be armed with a bit of information if anyone has done it before? The dealer seemed to suggest they may require a signature from the original owner who took out the agreement, but possibly not...

Has anyone done this before? It's not the end of the world, but a bonus if it can be...

Hello VW, I am looking at purchasing this car from a private seller. Seller says it has a service plan, can you verify it does? Brilliant, can you tell me if and how I transfer it to my name please?

Don't mention it was bought trade.
