Sent to me by my dealer... I'm going for Stage 1...

---------------------------------

The level one exhaust is £234 fitting would be aprox £50
the level 2 exhaust is £319 and aprox £125 fitting
the level 2 takes longerto fit as you have to enlarge the holes in the undertray fro the larger tailpipes.
both plus vat.
re noise levels there are no official figures quoted for these and it does vary a bit from car to car. the level one should be fine at snetterton no problem at all. the level 2 would be borderline in my opinion at a trackday, having said that snetterton are quite relaxed re noise levels but thats not to say you will get away with it.
the other point is that on a long journey the noise does get on you a bit as it does drone a bit when cruising. its not to bad with soft top but if you have a hard top it is much worse, we have swoped 2 level 2 systems on hard top cars for the level one.

Thanks mate. Waiting for a call back from the New Cardiff dealer for a price on a Stage 1. I can email him this if he comes back higher.

As for db readings Jimmy on Seloc has a Stage 1 on his S2 Exige and was tested at 5000 revs at Goodwood on Monday. It came out at 98db which is right on the limit for Goodwood.

Stage 2 sounds nice but is something like 105 db which is too much for most tracks.

Standing next to the DreamMachines S2 demo car with Pipercross Viper (?) induction and Stage 2 on Sunday in their service bay was hilarious.

SO loud, lovely burble on tickover and sounded like someone was splitting the sky open when gunned. I cannot imagine how loud and ferocious it sounds when at full chat... so I'm going to book a TD and find out!

And IT IS MASSIVE - Like two bl--dy great bazooka's hanging off the bottom of the car. Ony disappointment is that you can't see it unless you look right under the car.

Come on Lotus, sort it out!!!

Tim it is loud but a bit too loud.

My old S1 had a K&N filter and Eliseparts exhaust and was tested at 95 db at Combe.

For an everyday car that was enough so the Exige with ITG and Stage 1 should be plenty.

No point in getting a Stage 2 unless you are not going to track your car and have no neighbours.

As for properly loud cars Simonspider's Murcielago (the EVO long termer) was clocked at 117 db at Croft when he had the Tubi Exhaust on it

Have a look on Pistonheads TV for some clips. It sounds

I think you're right mate, it did sound a bit much (damn funny though). Were I to be in a position where I was seriously considering it, I think you're right that Stg. 1 would be plenty.

That's what I'm after too, prob the ITG (seems the best) for the induction, and a Stage 1.

Seeing as I have never fitted anything like an exhaust before, how easy is it as I'd love to have a go. Apart from ramps and a socket set, what else will I need? (Sorry for sounding like a non-mechanically minded numpty)

Not sure on the S2's mate. S1's was an undertray off job I believe so you'd need a decent jack, axle-stands, a good socket set etc.

Someone will come along and tell you the full enchilada who knows better than I soonish I'd say.

Frankly for a near as new car I'd be inclined to pay the hour or so's labour it'll cost you at a specialist to get it done properly while you have a coffee and chill out!

I'm not doing it to save money, as it will probably cost me more in tools, I want to do it to gain some knowledge of the car...

So watch them do it while you have your coffee dude

...or alternatively get a hold of the service manual which may well have info in there. Sure it can't be that difficult once you have the instructions
