Is it the norm not to receive a service book with the delivery of a new Audi?

Yeah it's all stored on Audi's own service system now.

Bit of a pisstake really.

I don't recall seeing a service booklet with my 67 plate.

It's in having its first service today - I'm pretty sure the details will be recorded electronically rather than representing a stamp in a book.

Will be able to confirm in a few hours.

My 67 plate Golf GTD recently had it's first service, and that was the same - no service book.

Umm, why?

Millions upon millions of pages of paper no longer need to be produced to create a useless book that will probably get lost or tampered with anyway.

Yes, normal.

my.audi.com or the My Audi app give you access to service history.

A plastic tag with one of your keys will have a scratch-off panel with a 10 digit code you'll need for activation. Don't lose the tag, they're a faff to replace.

When I'm buying a used car I don't really want to have to rely on the seller's goodwill that it's got say, a full Audi service history. Nor do I want to have to speak to Audi to verify a service record of a car I'm interested in buying.

Call me old school but show me receipts that back up the service record stamps in the service book and all is well.

I wouldn't trust Audi to wire a filiment bulb in series let alone correctly update and maintain an electronic servce record.

A few years ago when in dispute over rusty arches they disputed my FASH as a couple of long-life services were apparently not on their "system". Thankfully the service booklet had been fully stamped and it turned out one service hadn't been entered electronically and the other "got lost" when they changed over system or some lame excuse to that effect.

I know my local VW dealer can't be arsed to update 'My VW' - last service was done November '18 and still doesn't show.....the '17 service took a few attempts to get them to enter it!

The VW one hasn't worked properly for several years - but a few days ago ours was extensively sorted out - all the dire warnings about outstanding and overdue work (which had all been done) have disappeared.

All the services are listed, but the illogical oddity that it thinks only the first service was done in our ownership and all subsequent services were done by a previous owner remains

It does feel like a step back. Main dealers seem to frequently forget to upload the servicing info, and independants rarely have access or know how to do so.

Yes you can try keeping invoices instead, but trouble is they'll all go in the bin due to GDPR the second the car is traded or passed through an auction. So the service history ends up getting lost.

Digital history mistakes and omissions are far, far less common than service books being forgotten, lost, or filled out incorrectly. Mistakes and forgotten entries can be added retrospectively but a lot of main dealer service advisors aren't very good and/or don't know the process to do it.

You couldn't pay me to go back to the dark ages of service books.

I deal with this all day, every day.

If it's a lease I wouldn't worry about it.

My Transporter didn't come with a book, but I own it and wanted a fully documented history (I'm a geek), so I paid a tenner and the dealer stamps it and I keep all the receipts in a folder along with the book.

Never had one in Canada. I keep a file for each car and only use the dealer anyway. The invoice gives much more detail for those interested. Service book with a bunch of stamps has no value to me. I

Following this earlier post, it prompted me to chase the dealer to update the system. Taken a few days from when they said it had been requested, but now showing an extra 5 entries for work done at the last service. Shouldn't require chasing, but at least they've done it!

Has been sorted now - services all appear correctly.

What level of detail does it show? Mine just says "Service Event" for each service.

They appear to have gone to town in terms of detail - I have entries (all for the same date/service) for:

Aircon service
Service event
Gearbox oil change (our Golf is a PP so the diff oil needs changing, which isn't listed in the schedule)
MOT event
Brake fluid change

Don't have that level of detail for any previous work - although it does now show the service done by the original owner, and a 'repair event' for a warranty job

if the previous owner lost the code then it’s a pain to get a new one. After chasing my local dealer multiple times (and Audi UK) I’ve now given up.

The only thing I wanted it for was so I could see the service history on my app.

Parts department orders them through TPS in the same way a key is ordered. Off the top of my head they're 50 ish quid and you'll need V5+licence to order.

The tags go missing on the vast majority of cars!
