I think he should do some NASCAR races! Williams have now committed to two very good drivers already.

No wonder Jenson tried to get out last year - he obviously knew that David Richards was going. I thought Jense was nuts then but he forsaw this year's debacle with Honda in charge...Still, I'm glad Mr. Richards has turned his attention to the Aston effort - seems like he's doing the business as usual.

Reading between the lines in my paper today, the biggest link between Dan Wheldon and F1 appears to be Honda. So, if Jenson goes to Williams, there will be seat at BAR (again!). Davidson, Heidfeld, Wheldon???

Totally agree. It seems that success follows DR like an obedient dog! He's gotta be very high on the 'list' to succeed Bernie when the old geezer toddles off. In the meantime, he'll just go and clean up at Le Mans with those stunning Astons...

Who cares? I don't think he is anywhere near the top of the current new order of young guns. He's just another Coulthard or Ralph to make up the numbers.

lewis hamilton has a seat at mclaren in the close future, no one is really sure when but it will be in the next two or three years. they have invested so heavily in him that i can not see them choosing another driver who might threaten him.

Lewis Hamilton is presently running away with the F3 Euro Series, posting a string of exceptional results (winner at Monoco, both races at Spa (until excluded from one, along with half the field etc).

OK - he is driving for the ASM team - which means that he only really has one competitor, but still a pretty good achievement non the less

He's been watched over/sponsored by McLaren since his karting days.

Button has been over hyped ever since he was in karting.

He's very good, but yet to win a major championship.

Williams making yet another driver error if they make him their no' 1.

Ever noticed how good he is at letting people past? Especialy M Schumacher, JB always just lets him through in a flash, as if he was being lapped! (see Imola05) maybe if he'd spent a bit longer in the junior series he'd have learned a bit more about racecraft? Compare and contrast the above with F Alonso....

But to cap off all of the above, have you noticed how incredibley bland he is? Our office cleaner would have more charisma on TV than JB!

rant over, give Nick Heidfield his seat.

Surely much will depend on BMW's decision. If thery decide to stick with Williams rather than buying out Sauber, then they'll want to keep Heidfield won't they ? (& in any event the lad fully deserves to keep his seat). Button hasn't really demonstrated he's a better driver than Webber, so why would Frank ditch the aussie ? Button's not as skilled apparently as communicating what's going on with the car to engineers, as many of his peers. This is also often evident when quizzed by Louise Goodman - "So what went wrong today then Jenson ?" - "Err well, the fast bits weren't really working very well today, but we'll do some testing & they'll be quicker next time".

Button does seem rather hyped up. When he won his F1 seat, it was money & contacts talking as much as pure skill. Remember he was only 3rd to Marc Hynes & Luciano Burti the year before he made it into F1, in the F3 Championship.

2006 - Sebastian Bourdais into Renault, Fisichello & Massa onto Ferrari, Barrichello to BAR, Williams & Ron's lot as they are, Button to ???

Agree with many of the sentiments above, however, wasn't the fact that BAR nearly lost Button the agitator that resulted in DR leaving?

As far as I can remember, Webber is on a two-year contract, Heidfeld a one-year. Williams were pretty addament that Button would be going to them for '05, so surely there will be some sort of contract in place for '06?

I know who I would rather have in my team, and their name wouldn't be something for holding shirt cuffs together, that's for sure.

And another thing! Remember how Button compared to Fisichella, and then look at how poor old Fisi is doing next to Alonso (bad luck aside).

Im no Button fan, but it was only his second season if i remember correctly, and the benatton that year was a dog. They would be a lot closer now im sure, but neither are in the kimi/alonso league.

Button would be better to stay put at BAR, or hold out for a Ferrari drive.

Perhaps being the astute fellow he is, DR wasn't convinced that Button was as good as the hype, which is why Button wanted out.

Going to Williams might be bad move now in case Williams only end up getting an engine supply deal if BMW were to buy out Sauber...??

At least BAR would be a 'factory' team with Honda's stake in it.
