I've seen one of these near to me with only 30K miles on the clock.

It looks immaculate and has, I think, been ran by someone pretty much as a second car.

However, I've read about the oil consumption problems on (some?) of these engines and whether this has it or whether it's just not been ran for far enough for the owners to notice.

I'm wondering whether this would be a daft buy and whether I'd be better waiting for a 2012 or later model so thought I'd ask in here.

I would call and ask if the oil consumption work has been done, and can be backed up with an Audi invoice outlining the work.

If this is the case, it could be a great buy. However, I’m not sure I would buy one that hasn’t had the work done under warranty by Audi.

What remedial works would you be asking to see?

PCV replacement or something more substantial?

I have the invoice at home for the work carried out by Audi under warranty for my 2.0T A5, with the same problem. I will share that on here tonight. It is a significant process, inc pistons etc. Basically a top end rebuild.

not all of them drank oil. my audi s3 8p has 32k on and doesn't drink a single bit of oil. Never has.

I suppose the problem is you don't know until you actually start using the car though.

This one is a low mileage 10 year old garage queen up for £10K. If it doesn't use oil then I'd be very happy with it I think.

But if it does start using oil then that would be a right sod, and my fear is that averaging 3000 miles per year might not have been enough for them to notice.

If it was a couple of grand I'd have no second thoughts, but £10K is a lot to me hence my hesitation.

I've had a couple of low mileage Golfs, one ea888 and the other ea113. Both were OK.

The ea888 isnt using any oil despite 17,000 miles in 5 years

S3/TTS never had the oil consumption issue as it's a different base engine to the lower powered versions.
